(Sebastian perspective)We waited in the library while that Evander guy worked on healing Helena's wounds. He was speaking in a different language, Latin, I guessed. Every so often, I heard him softly say her name. The big grandfather clock ticked loudly in the silence, each minute crawling by like an hour.
The door opened, and Evander stepped in with a tired but hopeful smile. "The first spell worked. I need to get some leaves and a potion ingredient for the second, I've got them at home."
Ominis stood up immediately. "What do you need? We might have it in the cabinet."
Evander folded his hands calmly. "Five mandrake leaves and two dittany."
"I'll go check," Ominis said, already heading for the hallway.
I crossed my arms, keeping a close eye on Evander as he sat across from me. He deliberately looked away, eyes scanning the bookshelves like he had something better to do than acknowledge me. When he finally turned to face me, his expression was cold, unreadable.
I sat up straighter and grabbed my wand from the table. "If you've got something to say, say it already," I snapped.
"I just can't stand your face," he said bluntly. "After everything you did to Helena... I don't understand why she still loves you."
I stood, voice low with warning. "You people are all the same. Everyone thinks they know everything, every word, every look, every moment. But you're wrong."
He got up too. "I saw it, you know. Everything. All the hidden moments. I felt it when I healed her."
I stepped closer. "That's the problem. She let you see what she wanted you to. But did you see the good moments too? The beautiful, private things that made her fall in love with me? No, of course not. You only ever look at one side of the story."
I turned and walked toward the dining room. "There are two people in love. Two stories. Two souls. But no one seems to remember that when it comes to me and Helena."
I slammed the dining room door behind me and sat beside her on the table, laying my head gently on her stomach. I held her hand and whispered, "Don't ever listen to them. We know the truth."
Tears rolled down my face as I cried into her.
I could hear Anne's voice in the other room, talking to Evander. She was standing up for me.
"They had to fall apart to realize how much they needed to fall back together," she said. "The universe messed up. They loved each other at the wrong time. But that doesn't mean they weren't meant to be. They just had things to fix, to learn. It's like Romeo and Juliet, she wasn't ready to be loved, and he wasn't ready to be hurt."
Evander let out a long sigh. "That's... deep."
"That's romance," Anne said. "Don't hate my brother for his mistakes. Helena made hers too. You seem to forget that."
The dining room door opened. Ominis stepped in, holding mandrake leaves and dittany in his hands. "Let's do this," he said seriously, setting the ingredients beside her head.
I wiped away my tears, and Ominis patted my shoulder. "It'll work, Sallow. Don't worry."
We all stepped back, giving Evander room. His hands began to glow a soft red as he placed them on her forehead and spoke in Latin. He crushed the leaves, mixing them with red baubles he drew from his palms, and shook it in a small jar. The potion turned a glowing brown, and he carefully poured it into her mouth.
"Now we wait," he said, taking a seat. "I'll ask Flood to prepare us some food and drinks."
I left the room to fetch her.
