Chapter 2: Secrets Can Kill...

~Alex's POV~

Spending time in my room makes time fly. By the time the sketch for Sora's gift is finished, Monokuma's nighttime announcement rings out. I haven't eaten a single thing all day. I mentally promise myself that I'll wake up on time tomorrow to get something to eat.

I close my dorm's door behind me and pause immediately at something new on my desk. It appears to be something similar to the Monokuma file. Hesitantly, I approach my desk and lift the tablet to read what it was. Of course, it's not something I'm excited to see.

It's my target. My eyes skim over the context. Everything that Monokuma had said we needed to know was on this file. The target, the reason, and the time limit. The file reads:

"Target: Levi Halloway

Reason: You'll save them all. You've failed once, take this opportunity to redeem yourself.

Time Left: 47 Hours"

"You'll save them all?" I ponder as I sit on the edge of my bed. I'll save them all... Are we in danger? I-Is Levi a threat to us? With how he's been with everyone, I can't imagine him as a threat at all... Then again, I thought the same way about Darkness. If it weren't for that trial, she'd probably have killed us right then and there... I close my eyes to suppress her menacing laughs at the back of my mind.

After everything that's happened, the murder, the class trial, and Erza's ghostly smile in the portrait in her place in the trial room, my stomach starts to hurt again. I lay down without kicking off my shoes and stare at the ceiling until I'm submerged completely in darkness.

I kneel at his side, my hands shaking his shoulders with tears filling my eyes. I sniffle and silently beg for him to open his eyes.

"Please... Please, open your eyes!" I plead breathlessly, my tears falling onto the c()ncr3t3 with his blood splattered everywhere. I hold his head delicately in my lap, ignoring the blood staining my skirt and tights.

My finger subconsciously moves the strand of hair away from his closed eyes. "Please, wake up... We're supposed to go to *&%&$*# together!... Don't leave me here..."

My eyes shoot open and I swiftly sit up in my bed. I choke on my spit and bring my hands up to my chest, trying to catch my breath. A minute after, Monokuma's morning announcement rings through the halls. On the TV, he's accompanied by Miss Misa and Moon at his sides. There's a brief static, and then the broadcast ends.

The ambiance is stifling. I inhale deeply as I push myself out of bed and drag myself to the kitchen. I quickly do my routine— with that stupid piece of hair that refuses to sit down with the rest— and leave the bathroom. I grab my dorm key from my desk, put my Target file in a desk drawer, and head out of my room.

I must be early since I don't run into anyone along the way to the main hall. The doors are closing as I approach them. I take back the statement of me being early. The doors open again and I quickly step inside.

Sora, Luca, Levi, and Kat are already inside of the room. The boys are chilling over at a table separate from the others and Kat's checking out the buffet. Speaking of which, I remember the promise that I made to myself last night. I tiptoe over to the buffet and tap Kat on the shoulder. She flinches and turns to face me.
