Chapter 5: Grieving, Gaming, and Guessing

~Alex's POV~

I. Can't. Move. I didn't recall any dreams from last night, but something I do know is that over the last few hours, I felt worse than ever. Every time I try to place my foot down on the ground, everything around me starts spinning in a blur. It's become insufferable... I'm shocked no one's killed yet... Or is it because they're too weak and sick to?

Well, it doesn't matter now. I want to talk to people. Actual people, not the hallucinations of Jade, Levi, or whoever else who's been trying to kill me.

With enough force, I pull myself out of bed and hold on tightly to the covers when I'm in an upright position. I bite my lip, ignoring the blood gushing from my nose until it trickles over. A despairing sigh leaves my lips when I stand up from my bed, grab a towel sitting on top of my dresser, and wipe the blood away with it. I then slowly cross the room to the door, pull it open, and step outside into the hallway. I lean against the doorway as I step over the threshold, drag myself into the hall, and start leaning against the wall as I walk.

My ears are ringing a deafening tone in my ears, causing my already agonizing headache to intensify. I pause, press my hand against my forehead, and shut my eyes tightly in a futile attempt to silence the ear-splitting tone. It settles down slightly and I heavily open my eyes again. Glimpsing up and down the hall, I see that no one else is wandering or that everyone may have been down in the main hall already... I must've missed the morning announcement.

Perhaps I can find someone to talk to... If I can make it.

FREE TIME

I wander the halls to the staircase and slowly saunter down the steps. Pressing my shoulder against the wall, I drag my feet below me as I approach the main hall doors, leisurely push them open, and gaze into the room through my blurred vision. I can make out a short, cyan-blue silhouette standing beside a table close to the entrance while a pale blur is making its way through the buffet.

I approach the silhouette of Skye, who is fumbling feverishly with her messily braided hair, and hold onto the back of a chair by her side.

"Hey," I greet, tightening my grip on the chair, "How are you?"

Skye stops her frantic mumbling as soon as she notices me and replies wearily, "Oh, I'm fine... I think. How are you? You look like you've seen of ghost. Scratch that, you are the ghost."

With an air chuckle, I say, "Thank you? I'll take that as a compliment."

"By the way, I was curious, what happened last night? Why did you go into the recording studio when Monokuma said it was dangerous?"

"I uhh..." My voice fades. I don't know why I'm suddenly hesitant, but I take a swift breath and continue, "I was led in there by... Jade and Levi. They said there was something in there for me and almost had me killed."

Skye coos understandingly, "So, you've been seeing them, too."

"Hmm?"

"I've been seeing Erza and Darkness every now and then," Skye explains. "They've been telling me to do things that they usually wouldn't. Darkness told me to use the poison Light used on him instead as an act of revenge... I like-hate him, but I don't wanna kill 'em. Then, Erza told me a lot of stuff about despair that I couldn't understand. She told me it was comforting and that Jade was helping you see it, too."
