Chapter 3: Truths In The Dark Come to The Light

INVESTIGATION (PT.2)

~Alex's POV~

We're halfway down the road before I drop my hand from Levi's. He notices, still, he doesn't say anything about it. We arrive at the intersection and turn, Hopes Peak Academy St., and Levi continues to lead to the library doors. He pulls it open and holds it for me. I pass by and step into the library with him following behind. 

The lights flick on and Levi retakes the lead. He heads toward the desk in the back where we've found Kat's body— ... I mean where we discovered the strange documents before. As I approach, Levi pulls open a drawer, picks up a smaller pile of papers, and places it on the desk. I rest my hands on the desk and watch as Levi skims through the pages, setting aside the unimportant ones. I see the familiar title again on top of the pile of disregarded documents: The Two Student Experiments Conducted by Hopes Peak Academy.

Finally, Levi stops shuffling through the pile. He picks up a page from the pile, pushes the pile to the corner of the desk, and places the page flat. He points to it and glances up at me.

"Look. It's about us and our enrollment. See? It lists the talents we've been enrolled under."

I peek down at the page and read the contents of it:

"Hopes Peak Academy: Class 77-A:

Ultimate Entertainment, Ultimate Influencer, Ultimate Fashion Designer, Ultimate Skater, Ultimate Ice Skater, Ultimate Athlete, Ultimate Detective, Ultimate Artist, Ultimate Actor, Ultimate Scientist, Ultimate Fighter, Ultimate Gamer, Ultimate Rockstar, Ultimate Cosmetologist, Ultimate Farmer, Ultimate Chaos, Ultimate Science Experiment"

"Yeah, it's us... Who's the Ultimate Detective, Chaos, and Science Experiment?" I ask, eyeing the page.

Levi, still shuffling through the pile, responds without looking up, "The Ultimate Chaos is Jaxx's split, Ajax. The Ultimate Science Experiment... I'm not sure... But, I'm certain that I'm the Ultimate Detective."

Before I can ask, Levi holds up another page and sets it down on the desk. I glance down at it and notice a picture of Levi. It's a file! I pick it up attentively and read it over. It contains all of his basic information and in the Talent category, it says "Ultimate Detective". There's something else beside it, which looks like a slash, but whatever is on the other side of that slash is blacked out. My eyes skim over the page, I don't notice that I'm bouncing in excitement.

"You have an Ultimate! You're not the Ultimate mystery anymore!" I smile, looking up at Levi who shares the smile. 

He nods confidently with crossed arms. "Yep! You knew, as well. This outfit, remember?" Levi gestures to the outfit he's wearing from the night of the event. "I feel like I should redo my introduction, don't you think?"

I laugh, lowering the page. "If you do, Jade's gotta see it. She's gotta know now!"

The doors of the library open and there's a pause. Then, Jade calls out for anyone, and we call out letting her know we're in the back. Jade's face appears from behind a bookshelf and she approaches us, confused. 

"What's going on? Did you find something?"

I nod eagerly, holding out the page to her. "Read this! You'll love it, I promise."
