~Alex's POV~

"I choose..." My words are drowned out by the blizzard of thoughts in my mind. There's nothing... I'm not real, and I'm dead. So, if I choose, I'm choosing for them. I don't want them to suffer like this for the rest of their lives...

I look up from the podium and over to the three. Skye's face is drenched in tears beside her twisted, gleaming grin as she sways agilely; Sora's eyes are closed as his fingers dance around the fringes of his scarf and impatiently tapping his foot; Light stares ahead of him aimlessly, their eyes empty without a single thought.

My heart aches again. As I've said, I don't want them to suffer. However, I don't want to lose them. They'll know I'm not real... They'll learn that all the time we've spent together here and the relationships I've formed with the others aren't real. It was nothing but talking to an AI... Thinking deeply about it, it was as if they were talking to nothing. Like, talking to a wall, or talking to thin air. Nothing. I feel like an imaginary friend.

Suddenly, my mind shifts to Jade and Zach— before this mastermind phase of his. Neither of them were talking to anyone. When Jade was alone with Drake and me, she wasn't talking to anyone. Our friendship and... If there is something more, it's nothing but a false sense of hope we've planted in both of our hearts to feel something. My eyes sting and a tear drops from the corner of my eye before I can wipe it away. My efforts to protect Light make it seem as if I were a guardian angel. Jaxx and Light weren't talking or hanging out with anyone. Drake was only an A.I.

Skye wasn't sitting beside anyone on the rollercoaster or braiding anyone's hair during the sleepover; Only an A.I. No one ran in after Jade during her execution in an attempt to spend her last few moments with her. No one had the liar's disease during the outbreak. Candi didn't hurt anyone... Everyone here who thought they knew Drake and I... They didn't.

They only knew us as characters.

I can't help but silently sob to myself. I can feel Luca and Zach's gaze burning into me, it hurts even more and the tears come out; I have no intention of stopping them. I can't stop them. And it doesn't matter. I'm not real either way. I hug myself tightly and lower my head.

"... I told you she wasn't ready," Zach sighs. I hear the thump of his boots as he stands up from the throne and, with leisure, climbs down the steps. "It seems simple. But, it isn't."

"And I can... See why," says Luca sorrowfully.

I shake my head, my body trembling from top to bottom. "I don't... I don't want to lose them. But, I don't want them to be stuck like this..."

The rockstar nods his head understandingly. "Alright... I'll snap everyone out of it. Would that help?"

I don't respond. I hear the echoing snap of someone's fingers, and Skye's giggling stops. Reluctantly, I raise my head and look in their direction. Skye is scanning the trial room, disoriented mixed with sprinkles of apprehension, Light's massaging his temples and inhaling sharply, and Sora's wiping his wet face with the cuffs of his sleeves.

"What happened?!" Skye asks, finally landing her gaze on Luca before shifting her gaze to me. "Alex, what'd they do?!"

"Alex, are you okay?!" Light acknowledges with a deeply furrowed brow and his eyes sparkle with unease. Sora follows both of their gazes and matches their expressions with the same amount of woe.
