Chapter 5: Grieving, Gaming, and Guessing

~Drake's POV~

The lights behind the glass dim, plunging both Jade and Alex into the darkness while leaving the rest of us staring with wide eyes, dropped jaws, and more questions than anything. Once the curtains close, Sora breaks the silence with a low, agitated voice.

"That... Did not just happen."

Instantly, like it was her cue, Skye starts to panic, "I-Is she dead?! What do we do?!? WE CAN'T LEAVE HER IN THERE!"

"You better not die, you better not die," Light repeatedly mumbles to himself, staring intensely at the glass covered by the curtain.

"How do you get in there?!" Jaxx exclaims, walking away from us and toward the walls. He raps his knuckles across different walls as he eagerly tries to find a way into the room.

Monokuma waddles over to us with a snide grin and laughs, "Now that was extreme to the MAX! And I thought the last trial was crazy! I've never seen anyone have the balls to do something like that! Well, I take that back. I've seen one other person—"

"STOP! NO ONE CARES ABOUT THAT," Luca shouts, glaring down at the bear. "YOU'VE GOTTA HELP! NOW!"

"Since when did kids tell me what I have and don't gotta do?" Monokuma goes red in the face. "I don't have to save her... She ran into that with her own free will!"

Jaxx calls back over his shoulder, "Alex wasn't the blackened! She doesn't get to die in an execution that wasn't hers, you said it yourself." He lingers in front of a wall, eyeing it up and down before ushering Miss Misa to his side.

"When did I say that?! I've never said that—"

"In the rules," Sora says through tightly gritted teeth; his words sound muffled. "Your selfish, greedy, irrelevant ass said that in the rules! You're not gonna act clueless for that just to avoid helping Alex! She didn't do the killing, so you're going to make sure she lives!"

The bear says, "But, as I've said, she ran in there of her own free will. I didn't tell her to run in there and neither did any of you guys. I don't wanna be forced to do something I don't feel like. You guys can— ... Actually, I can do something! I'll be back!" Before anyone can yell at Monokuma anymore, he disappears right before our eyes with a beaming expression. Sora glares at the spot with a twitching eye and balled-up fists at his sides. Light pries his eyes away from the curtain and looks around, furrowed brows shadowing over their eyes.

Rumbling over Skye's frantic groaning and crying, we all shift our attention to where Jaxx is now standing in front of a dark hallway similar to the one Alex had run down. He turns to us, stares back with a stern expression, then gestures for us to follow as he asks, "What are you guys doing?! Let's go!"

Our trance wears off in an instant; we unfreeze from where we were standing and rush over to the opening, down the hall, and into the room. When Light almost steps out into the room, Jaxx flings out his arm to stop him.

"Now what are you doing?!" Light grumbles, sending a sharp glance up at the redhead.

Jaxx's eyes, which are burning with caution, scan the sheet of darkness in front of us with an intense focus. "... They were throwing different weapons during the execution, right? And unless Monokuma came and cleaned them up, they're still out there. So, if you step on the wrong thing, you'll get yourself killed."
