~Light's POV~
Tonight's the last night, right? I don't know if it'll be for me, but I know that people like Skye and Alex are... Are probably going to die tonight. In their sleep. A shudder rises from me at the thought. My head's hurting again... And she's here.
"What are you nervous about?" Kat nags in an airy, honeyed voice, spinning the chair behind my desk.
I'm tired right now. Slowly, I look over at her with half-lidded eyes. "Why are you here?"
She shrugs, planting her feet on the ground to stop the spinning. "I came to revisit you. Our last meeting didn't go well."
"How was it supposed to"— I'm cut off by a cough— "... Supposed to go?"
"I don't know. I just wanted to talk," Kat sulks, slouching forward with her hands clasped together between her knees. "But, you kept apologizing like crazy. I tried telling you that I got the point and that it was unnecessary."
"Say that again. To your killer. I have to apologize for surviving. I thought I was going to die, but I didn't. And now I'm stuck here while you..."
"So what? I've been following you guys for a while now and everyone seems to be... Well, not holding up well."
"Of course, not!" I sit up, yet instantly regret it when another sting of pain shoots through my head. "Alex is seeing things, Drake's seeing things, Skye is beyond gone in her own world, and I've been seeing things."
With a giggle, Kat asks, "Is this thing me?"
I nod. Kat stands up from the chair and walks over to my bed. She plonks down on the edge and faces me.
"... I know you didn't mean to. So, I'm not mad."
I raise a brow. "What?"
"To kill me," Kat adds quickly. "I've learned what really happened, and I'm not mad at you. It was against your will."
"But I... But, I was conscious. What do you mean...?"
Kat elaborates, "I mean that I've learned that Charli was the traitor and that she found your weak spot"— she gestures to my head, referring to the back of it— "And managed to hit it. I don't know how she did it, but it was dangerous."
"Kat, listen to me—"
"No, you're going to say something dumb again to try and make me dislike you. I don't... And I personally think it's payback for what I did years ago."
"Don't you dare—"
Kat cuts in again, "I will! I was the one who caused that to be a weak spot in the first place. Now, it's the thing that caused my death."
My eyes are starting to ache more than usual as I rapidly blink back a pressure surfacing. Similar to the night I found out that I was going to survive. I weakly take a handful of the sheets into my grasp without looking up at Kat.
"I know you feel guilty. It's gotten so bad to the point where you even tried to... I won't bring that up, but I think I can understand where your thought process is coming from. I know I'm supposed to be furious with you as the victim, yet I know what happened. I hurt you first, and you acted back. I don't think I can be mad at you for long."
