Chapter 3: Truths In The Dark Come to The Light

~Alex's POV~

"He what?!" I exclaim, my voice alarmed.

Zach massages the side of his head, groaning. "Can you two shut up? You're so loud..."

Levi quickly declares, "The tables have turned, hm? C'mon, I'll take you to a room."

"I can't," His tired voice drags out. He's losing whatever battle he's fighting with his eyelids. "Don't I... I have— yawn— to take care... Of..."

Levi adds, "You can barely hold your eyes open talking to us.'

The rockstar groans again, "I don't want to... I still need to... Talk to peop...le..." 

"Don't even. I'll take you, let's go." Gently, Levi takes hold of Zach's jacket cuff and drags him away to the patient rooms. I watch through the corridor's doorway as they walk to the end of the hallway, Levi opens the door, and they both walk in. I was going to call out to them, yet the idea ceased from my thought train when my brother peeked his head out through a door and stared down the hall. Then, he turns in my direction and waves before disappearing back into his room.

After about thirty minutes, Levi returns from the patient room without Zach. He informs me about Zach's condition and how he's knocked out cold. Of course, I'm wondering who's going to look after everyone since only one person is allowed to sleep over at the hospital. 

"Exactly," Levi confirms. "Only one person is allowed to sleep over. I'll stay up with the infected and you can sleep in the on-call room."

I stammer, fiddling with the bows on my skirt, "A-Are you sure? What if we get in trouble?"

"I don't think you guys would—"

An accidental scream escapes my lips, my hands quickly slap over my mouth to shut it up before it disturbs anyone else. I rotate around sharply to be met with the widened eyes of the ice skater, holding her hands together in front of themself.

She fumbles over their words a bit before speaking again. "I-I'm sorry! I didn't mean to appear like that s-suddenly! I-it's just... I don't think you'd get in trouble if only one of you is asleep..."

 "Oh... Thank goodness," I mumble, a hand on my accelerating heart.

Charli's so silent. I'm not sure if it's a requirement for ice skating, but God she's mastered it faultlessly. Levi goes on to explain to Charli what he's planning to do, and then he's off to the patient rooms. Together, Charli and I leave for the on-call room in the left hall.

When we arrive, I flop onto the mattress and Charli closes the door. She crosses over to a mattress beside mine, however they don't lie down. Her feet are kicked over the edge of the bed and they're facing me. I stare up at the ceiling, then avert my attention toward her.

A calming hush fills the room. Noticing her more closely without anyone to interrupt, I can tell that they're much more relaxed and less tense than she's ever been since we've been notified of the killing game. To break the silence, I sit up on my elbows and smile slightly.
