Chapter 6: All A Lie

~Alex's POV~

"I'm writing this because something happened and I don't have enough time to explain. I found a notebook on Charli and I'm using one of the pages. I know what's going to happen to me, and I don't want to hurt Alex since I know she's going to have to see it... And I don't want her to get hurt herself since, well... Her shoulder. I don't know if it'll be too much to ask, but would you be able to keep an eye on her? I would ask Light, but he's going through his own issues, and you're probably the only person I can trust to ask this to. Also, I'm sorry to leave you like this, too. You're an interesting, chill, entertaining creature to observe and I'll miss you! I'll miss you both... I'm sorry we didn't get out." The handwriting switches from slopping to a scrawled yet precise form, signifying the change in the author. 

"So, as you can see, Alex, Jade wanted me to protect you and ensure nothing bad happened. I read it in the waiting room after what happened at Jade's execution, and I suspected that I'd have to add to this, and so I did. Then, I read Jaxx's journal and wasn't sure if I would be okay, so I edited it more. I didn't know what happened, and I'm not certain that it's true, but that journal will be yours if I do die. I'm sorry I couldn't fulfill the request to the end, but that's what I'll ask of you. Would you be able to get out of here? I'm certain you can do it... You'll find out the truth behind everything soon, it's all in my room. If they haven't gotten to it. The masterminds, I mean. Everything you'll need is in there. Jade and I believe in you, we've talked about it a couple of times before Jade's death, and we're sure. 100%. You've got this."

The sun's frigid rays flicker on the crinkled paper in my grasp. The tears that already stained the page are chaperoned by the ones streaming down my face again. With a quick wipe of my arm across my cheeks, my face is void of tears and I push myself up from my bed. I glance over at the box and files hoarding on the surface of my desk. Heading over to them, I reach into the box and pull out the red, familiar jacket that Sora had worn at Drake's sleepover, glimpse over at the files spread amok across my pencils, pens, and fashion book, and then cross to my door. 

As soon as I reach it, I flinch from the sudden banging coming from the other side of the wood. Grabbing the knob, I pull open the door to see Skye with a panicked look on her face. Before I can ask what's the matter, she starts rambling hastily.

"Alex, Alex, it's urgent! He's hurt! I don't know what happened, but there's everything everywhere and there's so much! No one knows what happened and I was sent to come and get you and—"

"Woah, slow down, Skye. I can't understand you."

For the first time since I had opened the door, Skye inhales and exhales deeply before talking at a significantly slower pace. "Light. Something happened to Light, but there was no discovery announcement. He's not waking up."

The jacket almost falls from my arms. Seeing my face, Skye turns and starts rushing down the hall. Closing my door behind me, I follow. We run down the hall, pass the cat portraits, and into the opposing Moon's hall. From here, I can see Light's door is open and I think Sora standing near the doorway. When we get there, Skye steps back into the room and I take a moment to observe the situation.

Almost everything is turned over and disheveled as if a fight had broken out. Light's chair is flipped on its back on top of a reap of ripped-out pages and clothes. The drawers from his desk are pulled out onto the ground in front of the wood, and everything on its surface is spread amok and a pencil rolls onto the floor with a small tap. The sheets beneath my brother are expanded across the bed with rips and tears in the fabric, the stuffing from inside pokes out unevenly.
