Silence. But never a comfortable one.
Rather..
Agonizing.
Desolating.
Traumatic.
Poignant.
Plaintive.
I felt the silence surrounding me as I sat on the grass. Alone.
It's been three days since I lost my grandmother, who was the only source of love and support after I and Vansh became orphans. She was such a selfless, loving and charismatic woman.
This world lost such a gem because of me. Me!
If I had been a good grandson, I'd have never let it happen. But I did. I don't know whatelse or whomelse's life have I spoilt.
I sat at her cemetery with red eyes. Eye Irritation. Tension headaches. Strained face.
I lost myself long ago.
"Vir!" I heard my bestfriend's voice. The one who still stands by me eventhough he's angry over me for letting this happen. The only person who trust me still after what I did to Madhvi.
Thinking of her name, my heart shatters.
I felt his hand over my shoulder. The chain of thoughts broke. I looked at his hand and then at him. His emotionless face turned pitiful as he looked into my eyes.
I tried hard to hide my pain but he caught me before I could even try. He lowered himself beside me.
"Vir.." he dragged as he looked behind. I followed his gaze.
I sat there unhinged and distraught. I looked at the person standing afar.
She..
"Akanksha.." I whispered as I stood up.
She took a step forward towards me and halted. Her eyes held tears and her lips wobbled. I just stood there trying to distract my tears.
But suddenly felt arms wrapping around me. I opened my eyes to see both Raghu and Akanksha hugging me from either sides. I inhaled sharply and tried to look away. I even tried to blink my tears away but I failed miserably.
"It's okay...." Akanksha whispered.
"It's okay to cry Vir." Raghu continued.
I let go of my own control and tears shredded automatically. I hugged them back and pulled them closer.
My friends. The best ones I've got.
We stood there for a few more minutes and broke ourselves apart from eachother.
"I'm sorry for your loss Vir. Actually, it's our loss. Grandma loved us dearly. She didn't think of me or Raghu as any different from her own grandchildren. I really grieve that I can't be present at her funeral." She cried holding my hand.
"You had reasons.." I replied and she nodded her head while wiping her tears. I wiped mind with the sleeve of my shirt.
She then went towards her car and returned with a basket full of flowers. She slowly put them all over grandma's cemetery.
"May your soul rest in peace." Akanksha said looking at Grandma's grave.
My heart clenched hearing it. I really pray to god that she must find the eternal peace she deserves. I looked down fiddling my fingers.
I looked at Akanksha who turned towards me and then looked at Raghu. He raised his hands in defeat.
"You guys speak. I'm out to pick Vansh from school." Raghu excused and ran away.
