"Chew it, swallow it, and don't forget to say thank you."

It's been 30 days. 30 days since I was pulled from the car accident. Two men, two women and two kids had pulled me from the car and carried me into theirs. Their names, Shane and Lori, and Lori's son, Carl. And the other car, Carol and her husband Ed, along with their daughter Sophia. They had told me they saw what happened and they knew they needed to get me out of there. I don't remember this, but they said that I was in and out of consciousness. And when I was coming to, I was able to tell them what happened and why I was chasing the people in the van. They never knew what happened to the van. They just knew it had disappeared. And when I came to, I was really upset, heartbroken over the kidnapping of Jack. I don't even know if there's a chance I'll ever see him again. I am grateful to these people for helping me and saving my life. But I am hurt and angry that I couldn't even bring myself to get up and chase after the van to get Jack back.
Now that I'm settled down with these people outside of Atlanta, we're all pitching in together to make a living. We hunt for food, we fish, we wash clothes, we do as much as we can up here. We survive. We make sure that everything is livable for the time being. For however how long we're staying here for. But we don't know how long that'll be.
We are, however, are running low on supplies. There's a guy, Glenn, who's about a year older than me. And he's taken out a group with him to head into the city to get more supplies.
Lori and I sat around the campfire. Dinner will be coming up soon so we're preparing to light the fire to get it started and soon cook dinner. The woman before me was somebody I was a bit shocked to meet. Lori is the wife of the fallen deputy who was shot. Rick Grimes. I remember telling her that it was all over the news and that we sent her a card. She smiled and said she remembered seeing my name on the card and thought my little note was very comforting to her.
"Any luck?" We turn our heads and see Amy approaching us with a red bucket in one hand.
"How do we tell if they're poison?" Amy asks, dumping the mushrooms into Lori's bowl.
"Uh, there's only one sure way I know of." Lori says.
"Ask Shane he gets back?" I ask.
"Yeah, you've got it." Lori nods. She pulls herself up and dumps out any remains from the bucket and walks away.
"Anything good for dinner?" Amy asks.
"Uh, well, if Lori's able to, we might have mushroom soup again." I nod. Amy chuckles.
"Hey, Kira." Amy and I lift our heads up and find Link standing over us.
"Hi, Link." I utter softly. Link is someone who I find very, very annoying. He's always following me around. He's a year older than me. And I'm pretty sure he has a crush on me as he's always getting stuff for me, doing things for me, always complimenting me. You know, stuff guys do for girls when they're attracted to them. Me? I'm no where near attracted to this guy. Not exactly my type.
"Is there anything I can get for you?" He asks me.
"Uh, no. No, I'm good. Amy, are you good?" I ask.
"Yeah, I think we're okay. Thanks, Link." Amy smiles at him.
"I'll go get you some water." Link nods and quickly heads off before I could get another word in. Amy raises her brows and blows out a huff of air, shaking her head.
"Geez, is it that serious?" She asks, lightly laughing.
"Kinda scary if you ask me." I say. Amy glances around and she furrows her brows.
