Eight Months Later...

Spending eight months out on the road wasn't something I entirely planned, nor was it something I was shocked for something to happen. I knew we were on our journey, making it our mission to find a new place. I remained optimistic. I knew that there would be hard times being out here. But I wasn't prepared for how long it would take us to get to where we're going.

Everyone's been doing their best. They've kept their heads up. We've kept each other's backs. We've all made sure that nobody would get left behind, taken down by walkers. These past eight months, we've been able to stay alive. But that doesn't mean it was easy.

Some relationships have grown stronger, day by day. Take a look at Glenn and I. We're stronger now than what we were on the farm. We've talked things out together. We're doing great. Daryl has become a very close friend of ours, mostly mine. We tend to turn to each other. Rick had basically made Daryl and I his righthand guys. We do things for Rick, we talk to the others for Rick because most of everybody still isn't sure about Rick. From what we can suspect, everything Daryl and I tell the others, it comes from us and Hershel. So far, it's Rick, Hershel, Daryl and myself as the 'main leaders' of the group. We each basically have a job.

For the time being, my and Hershel's main focus is Lori. She's gotten big and she'll be giving birth to the baby really soon. She and Rick aren't on talking terms. They haven't been for a good while...maybe the entire eight months. I'm basically a messenger, maybe even a buffer between the two. Anything Rick needs to know about Lori, I tell him. Anything Rick needs me to tell Lori, I tell Lori. It's a working process, but it can only go so far. What are they gonna do when the baby is here? Lori was angry with Rick, even me, but mostly at Rick for what happened to Shane. Especially with Carl killing Shane. But she soon understood his reasonings, and she forgave Rick. But in the end, she had forgiven Rick a little too late. He hasn't spoken to her. She's tried, but Rick doesn't really wanna hear or is at the least, not even interested in what she has to say to him. He's okay with me telling him whatever Lori needs me to tell him, but if Lori tries doing it herself, Rick has a look of disassociating, spacing out.

These past eight months have been hard. Between keeping the group safe, keeping Lori safe and making sure she's healthy and the baby is healthy, it's been hard. Hershel and I have been in the talks of Lori's delivery. She said she'd given birth to Carl by c-section. We're hoping she falls into a natural birth and nothing happens to the point she has to have a c-section. Hershel and I have been talking about me doing it in case of anything, but it's been hard and we haven't had the time to sit down together and let me practice the c-section.

Everyone climbs out of the vehicles, taking in a few moments and stretching out their legs and bodies. Rick orders Carl and Beth to take watch. He calls for Hershel, Maggie, Glenn and Daryl together to go over where we can go from here. We're on the side of the road, after quickly running off from a few walkers. It's what we've been doing. It's all we've been doing. It's like we're island hoppers. We hit a house, as soon as walkers come by, we take off. We don't take the energy or time to take them out. We don't hide inside the house and hope they lose interest as we know they'll draw others and eventually trap us all inside. It's better.

"We got no place left to go." Maggie shakes her head as she lays down the map on the hood of the car. "When this herd meets up with this one, we'll be cut off. We'll never make it south."

"What would you say? That was about 150 heard?" Daryl asks Glenn.

"That was last week. It could be twice that by now." Glenn shrugs.
