It's been a few hours now. Jim was settled down in the shade, remaining handcuffed so he wouldn't hurt himself. Shane had given him water, poured some water over his head to cool him down a bit. Jim had explained that the reason he was digging holes was over some dream he had. But he couldn't remember it. Eventually, Shane had invited Carl and Sophia to clean the fish for dinner. Afterwords, everything was in the pans cooking and we finally gathered around for dinner to eat. We all remained mindful to make sure the other's were able to eat as well, setting a plate for them to the side. I held onto Glenn's plate, Lori holding Rick's, Dale holding T's, Daryl and Merle's.
The night was full of laughter. Smiles. We were all enjoying ourselves tonight. We were eating good for the first time again, something other than disgusting mushroom soup, no offense to Lori and Amy. And for dessert, we were able to munch on the peaches I gathered earlier today.
"I've gotta ask you, man. It's been driving me crazy." Morales calls over to Dale.
"What?" Dale smiles.
"That watch." Morales points. Dale pulls his arm down, touching his watch.
"What's wrong with you watch?" He asks.
"I see you every day, the same time, winding that thing like a village priest saying mass." Morales holds back his laughter.
"I've been wondering this myself." Jacqui smiles.
"I'm missing the point." Dale chuckles.
"Unless I've misread the signs, the world seems to have come to an end." Jacqui says. "At least hit a speed bump for a good long while."
"But there's you every day winding that stupid watch." Morales laughs.
"Time- it's important to keep track, isn't it?" Dale laughs. "The days at least. Don't you think, Andrea? Back me up here." Andrea's eyes widen and she let's out a chuckle. The look she gave was more like 'why is he asking me?' It's like her face was saying something different, but her laugh was trying to bruh it off. As if Dale calling to her was weird. It's not.
"I like- I like what, um, a father said to son when he gave him a watch that had been handed down through generations." Dale begins. "He said, 'I give you the mausoleum of all hope and desire, which will fit your individual needs no better than it did mine or my father's before me; I give it to you not that you maybe remember time, but that you may forget it for a moment now and then and not spend all of your breath trying to conquer it'." Dale smiles with pride as he finishes his monologue. Everyone smiles at his words, seeming to take it in wholeheartedly as Dale did.
"You are so weird." Amy says softly, causing all of us to laugh.
"It's not me. It's Faulkner." Dale explains. "William Faulkner. Maybe my bad paraphrasing." Amy sets down her cup and stands up from her chair.
"Where you going?" Andrea questions her.
"I have to pee." Amy informs her. "Geez, you try to be discreet around here..." Amy trails off and heads for the trailer. The rest of us remain laughing at the interaction and continued with eating and sharing funny stories. All hell broke loose when we hear Amy screaming from the RV. Every one of us turn our heads to the distressing signal and see a walker biting and tearing into Amy's arm. Walkers come out from the darkness and behind the RV, more and more filling our camp.
Everyone jumps up from their chair and frantically run around, trying to determine where to go and how to remain alive. Dale, Shane and I immediately began firing our weapons at the walkers, killing them instantly. Amy's screams fill my ears again and I turn around to see the same walker biting into the side of her neck. Andrea comes sprinting from the side to aid her sister. Before she could reach Amy, I throw my arm out and push her down, firing my gun at the walker. I turn my attention towards the tents and I see more walkers following after ones screaming. Immediately, I pull away and chase after the walkers, trying to save more lives as I could.
