I wander through the woods til I found a large knocked down tree and claimed a spot on it. I let out a sigh and reach into my pocket, pulling out the crinkled photo of Jack and I. Jack and I never talked to our parents the day we moved out. Since then, it's been only the two of us. Now because it was the two of us, I tried my hardest to get into the habit of doing normal family things. Things like having waffles and pancakes every Sunday morning. Plan some day activities with him whether it be going to the mall, going swimming, just doing anything together as much as possible. After all, he was a junior in high school so he was going to be heading off to college within the next year, which meant he'd be leaving me and I honestly wasn't ready for it. The photo in my hand is of a Christmas picture. We used this specific picture for a Christmas card. Now, we had grandparents, aunts and uncles. They were really the only ones who cared but Jack and I. So for the past two years, I'd basically force Jack into taking Christmas pictures and using them as a Christmas card to send to our friends and family. Jack wasn't always a big fan of it, but he knew how much it meant to me. This is the only picture I was able to get when we returned back to our apartment to grab some clothes and such before hitting the stores for some supplies.
Leaves rustling from behind pulls my attention and I find Glenn stopping in his tracks. He brings his hands up in surrender, giving me a nervous smile.
"Sorry. I, uh, don't mean to intrude." He says softly. I quickly fold the picture back up and held it tightly in my hands.
"What's up?" I ask him.
"I just wanted to check in on you." He lightly shrugs. "I saw the look on your face when Rick got out of the truck." He says softly. I inhale deeply and look down.
"I thought he was my brother." I utter.
"The one who was taken, right?" He asks softly.
"Mmhm." I nod. "I don't know. I mean, Rick and Jack fairly similar. And Jack is basically taler than me, so I just thought, you know..." Glenn nods his head.
"Well, maybe hopefully we find him out there and he never stopped looking just like you." He softly smiles. I lightly chuckle and nod my head, looking down.
"Yeah, well, hopefully." I say. We fall silent for a moment before Glenn brings up his hand and points towards the trees.
"You know, I, uh, saw the tears in your tent. And I've noticed you've been scrambling around trying to fix them and all." He says.
"Yeah." I nod. "Right, yeah, I've been trying to figure out how I can fix them before I'm completely homeless." I laugh.
"Well, I'm just bringing it up only 'cause I figured I could offer you to stay in my tent." He shrugs. I furrow my brows at his words.
"Wait, seriously?" I ask him.
"Yeah. I mean, I've got plenty of space. One person shouldn't need all that space. It's like one person living in a 13 bedroom mansion. Could use the company too, right?" I never pegged Glenn to be a creep. Link, yeah, totally a creep. But Glenn, never. He's completely harmless. Really sticks to himself honestly.
