The next morning, we all wake up bright and early. We head back down the stairs, leaving the way we came in. We reach the vehicles and headed back onto the road. Destination; Fort Benning. We had finally left the city and hit the highway. Dale drove the RV, Glenn in the passenger seat, navigating. Rick and Lori drove Carol's Cherokee, and Daryl rides his bike, guiding us through the roads.
In the distance, we come to a slow halt. Parked cars all over the roads, some wrecked out and totaled, some burned, some cars abandoned with the doors still opened. In some vehicles, we noticed some dead bodies in them. Hopefully, they remained dead and hadn't turned.
Daryl pulls ahead, looking for a way out and big enough for Dale to maneuver the RV through. He soon circles back and approaches the driver side window.
"See a way through?" Dale asks Daryl. He nods his head and signals for him to follow. Slow and steady, we follow Daryl through the wreckage.
"Uh...maybe we should just turn back." Glenn suggests. "There's an interstate bypass-"
"We can't spare the fuel." Dale reminds him. As Dale continues to follow Daryl through the wreckage, the engine sudden explodes with steam pushing out and sputtering loudly. Dale hits the brakes and we come to a stop. Dale turns angry and stomps his way out of the RV, slamming the door open and marching over to the engine.
"I said it. Didn't I say it? A thousand times. Dead in the water." Dale calls.
"Problem, Dale?" Shane asks.
"Just a small matter of being stuck in the middle of nowhere with no hope of-" Dale stops, catching the sight of Daryl approaching the back of an opened vehicle and rummaging through the belongings. "Well that was dumb."
"If you can't find a radiator here..." Shane trails off, raising an eyebrow at Dale.
"There's a whole bunch of stuff we can find." Daryl says.
"I can siphon more fuel from these cards for a start." T adds.
"Maybe some more water." Carol adds.
"Or food." Glenn nods.
"This is a graveyard." Lori announces. We all turn to face her, seeing the unsettled look on her face. "I don't know how I feel about this." She says softly.
"We'll be okay." Carol smiles at her. "We'll get some supplies, make things easier on us." Lori let's out a sigh and begins walking with Carol.
"Gonna find some stuff?" Glenn asks me. I raise my brows and nod.
"Clothes. Food, water, supplies." I reassure him.
"Find me something cool?" He smiles. I show him a smile and nod. We both give each other a low high-five and we part ways. I walk down the line of car, peaking into each vehicle I pass to see what was in there I could use. I easily found a backpack, pulling it from the window and began putting things I needed in there.
I come to a slow stop when I see something in the passenger seat. It was an easy grab, but there are two problems. One, the passenger door is pinned against another car, making it an obstacle to get into the car. And the other issue, there's a dead body sitting in the drivers seat, and I wasn't sure if it was still there or just a body.
I grab the handle of the door and pull it open. Nothing from the body. I chew on my cheek, thinking of ways to keep the body secured in case it did reanimate. I glance down at the seatbelt and an idea pops into my head. I unbuckle it, wrapping it a few times around the throat and a few times around the headrest. I tug on the belt a few times, making sure it would lock and it did. Finally, I set the backpack down on the ground and hover over the body, resting one hand on the middle console and the other reaching for the lucky find.
