CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT
the dementor

"𝐖𝐄 𝐆𝐎 𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘 𝐘𝐄𝐀𝐑." Narcissa sighed as she once again tried to get Bellatrix and Lyra to say proper goodbyes to each other before their baby sister went off to school. As usual, she was beginning to get frustrated.

Lyra had become more difficult since becoming a teenager. She was losing her temper more and talking back, especially when it came to Bellatrix. The two never saw eye-to-eye, and neither wanted anything to do with the other.

"Oh, for Salazar's sake," Narcissa muttered as they continued to glare at each other, neither of them blinking. They often had these stare-downs that would last for several minutes because they were both too stubborn to look away.

When Lyra's eyes began to burn, she blinked and looked down. Bellatrix smirked a little in triumph. Narcissa glared at her. The older witch rolled her eyes and awkwardly patted Lyra's shoulder. The teenager flinched and smacked her hand away, muttering, "Don't touch me."

"Brat," Bellatrix grumbled. "Don't do anything disappointing."

Lyra rolled her eyes. Everything including her existence was disappointing to her eldest sister. She bet that she'd be happy if she disappeared and was never heard from again.

The train whistle blew. Lyra gave Narcissa a hug goodbye and boarded the train. As suspected, everyone was staring at her in disgust. She sighed and kept her gaze low until she reached the carriage where Harry, Ron, Hermione, Dakota, and Aliyah were. There was a man asleep by the window. Her brows furrowed a little; she'd never seen any professors on the train before.

"Lyra!" Aliyah smiled at the blonde when she slid open the compartment door. She slid over and patted the spot between her and Harry. "I saved you a seat. I was hoping you'd show up. How was your summer?"

Lyra shrugged. "Fine."

"Do you think he's really asleep?" Harry asked as he looked at the sleeping professor.

"Seems to be," Hermione said. "Why?"

Harry stood up and closed the compartment door. "I've got to tell you something." He began explaining about how Sirius Black had broken out of Azkaban to come and find him. Lyra bit the inside of her cheek and looked down at her hands, beginning to pick at the healing skin on her fingers. Aliyah noticed this and frowned softly. She put a gentle hand on top of Lyra's to keep her from tearing them up any more.

"Let me get this straight," Ron said when Harry was finished talking. "Sirius Black has escaped from Azkaban to come after you?"

"Yeah." Harry nodded.
