CHAPTER FOURTY-FIVE
buckbeak's fate

𝐖𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐄𝐃 𝐓𝐎 𝐒𝐏𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆, and weeks had gone by with Lyra avoiding Harry's every attempt to apologize to her. She mostly stuck with Aliyah, occasionally hanging out with Dakota and Hermione whenever they weren't with Harry. She didn't expect either of them to pick sides – she'd never even ask that of them – but she did miss spending time with them outside of classes.
She and Draco were slowly starting to get along again. She didn't know where his change of heart had come from, but it was nice to have her best friend in the family back. He and Aliyah still couldn't stand each other, but at Lyra's request, he'd stopped calling her the M word.
At least to her face.
Aliyah was telling Lyra about how Harry had told them that Lupin taught him the Patronus charm. Naturally, the Ravenclaw girl had wanted to learn how to do it, so she'd been practicing on her own in empty classrooms during her freetime.
"And have you gotten it?" Lyra asked as they walked down the corridor after their last class of the day – double potions with Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw.
"Mhm." Aliyah nodded with a grin. "It took me a few tries, but I was able to produce a corporeal Patronus."
"Corporeal?" Lyra asked in amazement. "Aliyah, that's really advanced magic for a 13 year old. What animal did it take the form of?"
"A squirrel. I love squirrels. They're hardworking and resourceful, like me."
"Lyra, wait up!"
Lyra turned around and saw Harry jogging up to her. She turned to Aliyah and grabbed her shoulders. "Quick, Ali, hide me!"
"Lye, I think you need to hear him out," Aliyah told her gently as Harry caught up with them. "I'll leave you two alone so you can talk," she said to Harry before walking away.
Lyra hugged herself uncomfortably, her gaze fixated on the ground. She and Harry stood in an awkward silence for a moment.
"Lyra, look," Harry began, sighing softly. Lyra forced herself to glance up and meet his gaze. He took a step closer to her. "I'm really sorry for what I said in Hogsmeade. I-I was angry, and hurt, but that was no excuse to take it out on you. I never should've come at you like that about your family. I hope that you can forgive me."
Lyra thought for a moment. She understood taking emotions out on others; people often said hurtful things that they don't mean whenever they're upset, and she just happened to be in the wrong place when Harry learned the truth about Sirius. If she hadn't been with them in Hogsmeade, their friends most likely would've been able to calm him down before they crossed paths again.
