"I think my hand is gonna fall off," Dakota mumbled, wincing as Hermione dabbed the wound with a special ointment to help with healing before wrapping it in bandages.
"It's not gonna fall off." Hermione took her hand and gently kissed the top of her bandages. Heat rushed to Dakota's cheeks, and Hermione smirked a little. "You're gonna be just fine, Kota."
"Try not to be too hard on yourself, Harry," Lyra said as they walked outside to the bridge. "You did everything you could."
"No one stood a chance against that evil hag." Dakota tucked a strand of hair away from her face before crossing her arms. "Even Dumbledore didn't see this coming."
"Harry, if it's anyone's fault, it's ours," Hermione said as Harry came to a stop, looking out at the foggy grounds.
"Yeah, we talked you into it," Ron added.
"Yeah, but I agreed." Harry sighed. "I tried so hard to help, and all it's done is make things worse. Anyway, that doesn't matter anymore."
"Hairball, what's that supposed to mean?" Dakota frowned softly as she walked up next to him.
"I don't want to play anymore, Kody. All it does is make you care too much. And the more you care, the more you have to lose. So maybe it's just better to. . ."
"To what?" Dakota gently pressed, her brows creasing.
"To go it alone."
"Harry, that's not going to do you any good," Lyra stated with a small pout. "I tried isolating myself second year, and all it did was make me feel worse mentally on top of everything else that was happening."
"We're here for you, Harry." Dakota placed her hand on top of her cousin's and offered him a soft smile, which he struggled to return.
"Psst!" someone called out to them. It was Hagrid. The six friends followed him, and he led them into the Forbidden Forest.
Dakota held onto Hermione's hand as they stepped over tree trunks. A herd of centaurs came galloping by, frightening Lyra by their sudden appearance.
"I've never seen the centaurs so riled," Hagrid said. "And they're dangerous at the best of times. The Ministry restricts their territory much more, they're gonna have a full uprising on their hands."
