CHAPTER SIXTY-SIX
christmas at grimmauld place

Dear Andromeda,

I hope it's okay that I'm writing to you. As I'm sure you know, there aren't many people in our family that I feel I can safely confide in on certain topics. Not even Narcissa would approve of this, and I'd be disowned for sure. (Not that that would necessarily be a bad thing; then I'd get to come live with you or Sirius. But I'd understand if you guys don't want me around.)

Sorry. I tend to ramble when I'm anxious. All that is beside the point. The real reason why I'm reaching out to you is because I think I might have a crush on my best friend. You know, Aliyah? She stayed at Grimmauld Place over the summer. She's the one with the curly black hair. She's Muggle-born, and you know how our family views Muggle-borns. They're "scum of the earth" as Bellatrix would say.

I'm already on thin ice being a Hufflepuff and all that. I think it's a miracle Bellatrix hasn't blasted my picture off the family tapestry. I thought she would've done that the moment I was born if I'm being completely honest. The way I understand it, she was never thrilled about having another younger sister, especially after Mum and Dad died and I was left for her and Cissy to raise. Cissy's probably the only reason why I wasn't disowned for being sorted into— Sorry. Rambling again. I really need to stop that.

You don't have to reply. I might not even send this letter. I just needed to tell someone who'd understand firsthand how scary it was to fall for a Muggle-born after everything we were taught to believe as purebloods.

Love (sorry if it's too soon to use the L word),
Lyra

A new Educational Decree was passed banning all student organizations. Luckily for Dumbledore's Army though, Lyra knew a perfect place to practice defense without getting caught by Umbridge or Filch.

She'd used the Room of Requirement a few times in her second year when she needed to escape the chaos happening around the school – chaos that was her fault. The room was designed to equip whatever its seeker needed. For Lyra, it had provided her with a bed and plenty of books to read to distract herself. For the DA, it provided them with dummies to practice spells on.

For the next couple months, they would meet in the Room of Requirement learning various defense spells, utilizing the dummies as well as practicing on each other.

As time went on, it was getting harder and harder to sneak past Umbridge. She'd brought all students into her office to question them about suspected illicit activities, even going so far as to give them tea laced with Veritaserum to get the truth out of them. Luckily, Aliyah was clever and when she heard about this, she brewed an antidote to protect them from spilling information about Dumbledore's Army.
