"𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐓𝐎 𝐃𝐄𝐓𝐀𝐈𝐋 𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 is the prerequisite of all planning," Professor Slughorn was telling them in that morning's potions class. Dakota stood between Hermione and Aliyah. Lyra was standing with Draco and Pansy, intentionally avoiding Aliyah's gaze as the girl tried to catch her eye.

The door opened, and Harry walked in with Ron. Dakota blew a bubble with her gum, popping it with her teeth. An amused smirk twitched on her lips at how unhappy the boys looked to be here.

"Ah! Harry, my boy, I was beginning to worry," Slughorn said, smiling at the pair. "We've brought someone with us, I see."

"Ron Weasley, sir," the redheaded boy introduced himself. "But I'm dead awful at potions. A menace, actually. So, I'm probably just gonna—" He tried to turn around and leave, but Harry grabbed his arm to stop him.

"Nonsense, we'll sort you out. Any friend of Harry's is a friend of mine. Get your books out."

"I'm sorry, sir," Harry spoke up. "I haven't actually got my book yet, and nor has Ron."

"Not to worry, get what you want from the cupboard," Slughorn instructed before continuing to teach his class. "Now, as I was saying, I prepared some concoctions this morning. Any ideas what these might be?"

Naturally, Hermione's hand was the first to raise. Aliyah would've raised hers, too, but she was too focused on trying to read the blank expression on Lyra's face. She frowned softly at how dull her blue eyes looked.

"Yes, Miss. . . ?"

"Granger, sir." Hermione stepped forward to identify the potions. "That one there is Veritaserum. It's a truth-telling serum. And that would be Polyjuice Potion. It's terribly tricky to make. And this is Amortentia, the most powerful love potion in the world. It's rumoured to smell differently to each person according to what attracts them. For example, I smell. . .freshly mown grass, and new parchment, and. . ." her face turned bright red, "spearmint chewing gum. . ."

Dakota stopped chewing on her spearmint gum. Her brows furrowed, and she looked at Hermione as she rejoined her side. The slightly taller girl was pretending to be interested in a loose string on her robe. Just to get her reaction, Dakota lightly blew her breath in her direction. Hermione glared at her and mouthed, Stop that.

"Now, Amortentia doesn't create actual love. That would be impossible," Slughorn explained. "But it does cause a powerful infatuation or obsession. And for that reason, it is probably the most dangerous potion in this room." He put a lid on the cauldron, and a couple of girls that had stepped forward to try and smell it backed away.
