She glanced over at Dakota on the other side of the greenhouse, who, judging by the annoyed look on her face, was having to endure the same thing from Pansy.
". . .and now she's avoiding me like the plague— Blondie, are you listening?!"
"No, ferret, I'm not," Lyra replied, irritated.
Draco frowned. "What happened to 'dragon'?"
Lyra smirked and patted his shoulder. "I think 'ferret' suits you better."
The class soon ended, and they were dismissed. Dakota stormed out of the greenhouse, Pansy hot on her heels as she continued to bitch at her for kissing Draco. Finally having enough, she whirled around, her piercing blue eyes narrowing dangerously.
"Listen here, pug face, I don't like Draco," she growled through gritted teeth. Pansy's face flashed with hurt at the mean nickname. "I like somebody else. I was trying to make them jealous, and now, I feel terrible! Get over yourself!"
Lyra turned to Draco as Dakota ran off to the castle. She threw an arm out to her. "Does that sound like someone interested in dating you, ferret?"
"Shut up," Draco grumbled, dragging his feet through the frost-covered grass.
Lyra and Neville met up with Ophelia and Hadley as the two older teens came back from their Care of Magical Creatures class. The four walked back to the school. As they were crossing the bridge, they saw Harry, Hermione, and Aliyah.
"Harry!" Ophelia called out to him, jogging up to the three.
"Hey, Lia," Harry said glumly.
Ophelia frowned softly. "Are you okay?"
Harry hesitated. He wasn't okay, but he couldn't dump all of that onto her. "Spectacular."
"Okay, um. . ." Ophelia adjusted her bag on her shoulder. "Look, I realized that I never properly thanked you for tipping me off about the dragon."
Harry waved his hand dismissively. "It's not a big deal. I'm sure you would've done the same for me."
"Exactly. That's why I need to talk to you," Ophelia said. Harry's brows furrowed as he looked up at her in confusion. "You know the prefects' bathroom on the fifth floor?" She lowered her voice, quickly glancing around to make sure no one else was listening. "It's not a bad place for a bath. Take the egg and, uh. . .mull things over in the hot water."
