CHAPTER SIXTY-ONE
the dementor attack

── •✧• ──

𝐖𝐀𝐑 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐆. Even in the Muggle world where she and her cousin were supposedly safe, Dakota Dursley could tell that something bad was on the way.

She kept remembering that night in the graveyard. Watching Lord Voldemort return, the mad gleam in Bellatrix Lestrange's eyes as she tortured her just because she was Muggle-born, the begging and pleading from Harry as he cried for her to stop.

Dakota closed her eyes, choosing instead to focus on her surroundings instead of the trauma she had faced at the end of the Triwizard Tournament. It was windy; her loose blonde locks were blowing messily in the breeze. The swingset she was sitting on was hot from the blazing sun; the chains were creaky as she slowly rocked herself back and forth. She took a deep breath in through her nose and out through her mouth before opening her eyes.

Her older twin brother, Dudley, and his gang of gorillas were approaching them. She sighed in annoyance, her piercing blue eyes shooting metaphorical daggers at him.

"Hey, Big D," Harry called out to him. "Beat up another ten year old?"

"This one deserved it," Dudley stated, his cronies making agreeing remarks.

"Five against one. Very brave."

"Well, you're one to talk." Dudley scoffed. "Moaning in your sleep every night. At least I'm not afraid of my pillow," he teased, his friends laughing.

Dakota felt her anger boiling. "Shut up, Dudley," she grumbled, glaring at him.

"'Don't hurt Kody!'" Dudley mocked. "'Don't kill Kody! Leave Kody alone!' You two are so pathetically protective of each other, I'm starting to think you're in love."

"Shut up, Dudley," Dakota repeated, her hand forming a tight fist.

"'He's going to kill me, Mum!'" Dudley continued to mock Harry. "Where is your mum? Where is your mum, Potter? She dead? Is she dead?"

"I said SHUT UP, Dudley!" Dakota screamed, leaping up off the swingset, prepared to strangle her idiot of a twin. Harry grabbed her and pulled her back. Dakota shoved him off of her and whipped out her wand, pressing it threateningly into Dudley's neck. "One more word out of you, and I will use this," she growled.

The wind around them began to whoosh, dark clouds covering the sky. Thunder rumbled. The laughing ceased from Dudley's gang, and he looked at his sister in fear.

"What are you doing?" he asked, his voice wavering.

"I'm not doing anything," Dakota replied, lowering her wand as her brother's friends ran away. She glanced up at the sky. "It looks like it's gonna storm."
