Chapter 68

"D-don't take my words wrong, but I don't feel like doing it tonight. I-I just... I'm too worried about Blaze to feel like doing it... I swear I will c-comply next time, but just not tonight... please..." Adam struggled to say, voicing his feelings much harder when he felt just how big and muscled Evan was, his body above his. The giant could easily hurt him right at this instant if he felt offended.

Adam knew it was wrong to think that of his lover, but years of abuse by his family had fucked up with his mind. He truly couldn't keep the dark thoughts at bay, and he started to apprehend the worst from Evan. The scars on his back from the lashes he received from the people called his family were a painful reminder of how far humans could go to achieve their desires.

The warrior waited anxiously, only to be met with a long silence. Slight shivers made his hands shake and goosebumps appeared on his tanned arms as he willed himself to look up into the giant's eyes. He expected to see fury, or even disgust, however, what he saw shook him to the core.

Evan looked down at his master with pain in his heart, not quite believing that he was that unreliable in his partner's mind. It felt like Adam's words had just pierced his heart with a burning knife and then drowned it in freezing water. He felt a kind of emptiness he hadn't felt in a long time, in fact, since meeting Adam.

He opened his mouth hesitantly, not knowing how to voice his thoughts, but then he thought of all the time they had spent together and started to see where things had gone wrong. Adam may seem confident and knowledgeable most of the time, but he was a beginner to this whole dominant and submissive thing, and this was his first relationship. The warrior must have been confused on what he could decide and what he couldn't, which wasn't much.

Coupled with the fact that Evan had always taken the reins before, chasing hard after him, he could see why Adam wasn't sure he could say no.

Also, he may have felt hurt at first that Adam was scared of him, but it was kind of to be expected. Evan knew Adam's past, and he wasn't exactly the most soft and inoffensive looking slave. Adam may like his big stature and muscles, but he could also fear his punches if his image intertwined with those of his bullies.

Evan could respect that, he knew in his mind that Adam didn't mean to hurt him by saying that, but his heart still felt squeezed in a metal claw.

"Listen Adam, at any moment, no matter what, you can say no. Don't forget, this is what the safe word is for. It may seem like the dominant gets all the rights to choose, but in fact, the sub holds all the power. That's how it works. I know it's confusing, but just remember, if you are uncomfortable with something I'm doing, or something happening, or I don't know, anything, just say it. Don't hold it in. If you don't want to do it tonight, then it's fine." Evan said, making sure that each word was clear and going inside his little hedgehog's brain. He got up from the bed and started to walk toward the opening, but stopped on his track when he heard a pained whine leave his lover's lips. He turned back to see Adam on his hands and knees, one hand stretched as if to hold him back. Tears were running down his face and he was holding back sobs.

"Don't worry, Love, I'm not leaving. I'm getting Blaze inside. I didn't think it would worry you that much, I don't mind." The giant said to reassure his partner, holding back a relieved sigh as Adam settled back into the bed, gazing at him with glistening eyes and a puffy face. Evan cooed in his heart, but chose not to comment.

He woke Blaze up, the fox confused as he was taken suddenly inside the tent. The shifter was going to comment, but held back as he saw his father ushering at him. The fox was intrigued, but a quick glance at his crying dad made him hold back his tongue.

"I won't make any sexual moves, but is it alright if we cuddle? You can say no." Evan asked as he crouched down near Adam's face, trying to make eye contact. His heart broke again when he saw the insecure look in his lover's eyes. The warrior nodded, snuggling into the blanket as Evan took his big spoon place behind him. He may not say out loud just how comforting having his lover's heat on his back was, yet it was easy for Evan to guess as he felt him relax in his arms.

The giant minced his words for a few minutes, waiting until Adam had calmed down enough before speaking up.

"You know, communication is really important, which is why I feel the need to say this. I should, after all, follow my own advice." Evan started whispering, making Adam tighten his muscles in spite of his best judgment. The giant chose not to comment and instead continued.

"It hurt me a little earlier that you feared me. I know you have your reasons, but it just did. Like, my brain understands where you are coming from, but my heart feels hurt. I'm not trying to say you are in the wrong, far from it. I just want to say my feelings. What can I do to make you feel more safe with me? I really want to reassure you and act like your teddy bear." The warrior's eyes widened at the giant's words, not having expected this confession. Nonetheless, Evan was right to feel this way, and Adam truly didn't feel offended or like he was being attacked. Thinking of how he acted, even he would have felt hurt if he had been in the receiving position of such a look.

He chewed his lower lip as he thought, being mindful of his now healing cut.

"I'm.. not sure... I think I just need time to heal... More cuddles wouldn't hurt. You have been wonderful so far, Evan. You could be a bit more welcoming toward Blaze, but I can understand your jealousy. I like this side of you as well. I love you, Bear. Even if I may not say it often, or if I have moments like just now, I truly love you with all my heart." Adam whispered, turning his head slightly to be able to look into Evan's eyes. The giant felt warm, like a soothing balm had just been spread on his burning heart.

"I love you too, Hedgehog." The giant answered, his gaze burning with the want to kiss his lover. Yet, he held his desire down, respecting his lover's needs. Except, Adam also wanted a kiss at that moment, so he initiated it.

A small peck turned into a sensual kiss full of love and sweetness, making both lovers' teeth ache due to the happiness radiating from it.

The little family of three slept well for the rest of the night.
