If they followed what the map indicated, they still had two weeks left of traveling before reaching the Aleksy's tribe. It had taken them two weeks to travel half the journey. The family of three had grown accustomed to this way of traveling by foot, setting their camp each night, roaming near rivers to spot prey for their meals and to replenish their bottles. Their supply of jerky was running low, so they tried to find other ways to fill their stomach.

Evan would often joke with Adam that he was filling his stomach well when they were being intimate, and while Blaze wasn't around.

It would make the warrior blush a deep red and slap the giant, but when he was getting pounded from behind, it was harder to muster enough strength to mouth him off between moans.

Still, the couple found themselves much more comfortable in their interaction since they started communicating more. Evan was also closer with Blaze, which made Adam and the fox happier than ever. The giant would even volunteer to take a bath with the shifter in his human form in the river while Adam prepared the dinner.

It was awkward at first, the slave was not used to taking care of a small child, but Blaze made it much easier by being mature about it, telling Evan what he liked and what he didn't. They even had days where they played all three of them in the water, being loud and not caring about bothering anyone with their antics as they were alone in the woods.

It was truly a blissful journey.

After storing away the map, Adam turned toward the two roads facing them.

"We have two choices. One, head toward a village close by where we could sleep in an inn and replenish our supplies in food. Two, go back inside the forest and sleep in the open." The warrior said, knowing that both roads would take the same amount of time to reach their destination.

"People..." Evan grunted out, clearly displeased at the idea of meeting other humans. Adam chuckled, having expected such a reaction from the giant. He looked down at Blaze, who was in his human form. The young boy gazed at him with his fiery iris, a smile on his pouty lips making dimples appear on his childish cheeks. He had on a cute sailor outfit, a matching hat hiding his ears. Only his soft fluffy tail was left wagging behind him.

"I don't mind as long as I'm with you both." The kid said, taking Adam's hand in both of his, intertwining his chubby fingers with the warrior's rough ones. He tugged a little on his hand, hoping slightly with the ball of his feet on the ground. Understanding the hidden message, Adam bent down and took him in his arms, bringing him up. Blaze wrapped his arms around the dark-skinned man's neck and did the same with his legs around his waist.

Adam, now with a koala around him, pointed toward the road which headed inside the forest with his chin, holding on to the child's back.

Evan ruffled the young boy's hair as he bypassed his lover.

"W-wait!" Just as the family was about to enter the forest, they heard a shout coming from afar. Both men's eyebrows furrowed and they exchanged glances. The two of them found such an encounter suspicious. Evan took a protective stance in between the incoming person and his people, ready to defend them.

"I, w-we, n-need help. P-please." A young boy stuttered as he arrived closer to them, huffing and puffing as he tried to catch his breath. His tongue seemed to have a problem as he struggled to articulate. The child looked no older than Blaze, ash-blond hair sticking up in random places as long bangs covered his face. He wore dirty and used clothes, the tissue riddled with holes and looking like it could fall apart at any gust of wind.

What made the two men''s veins burst on their forehead, however, wasn't the look of poverty on the young boy, no, it was the clearly starving signs, the bruises on his small arms and legs, and most importantly, the slave collar around his neck.

"What's wrong?" Evan asked before Adam could take a step forward, stunning the warrior. He hadn't expected his bear to approach the kid first, and even less to do so with such a composed and gentle attitude. Evan hadn't anticipated the strange feeling in his chest either, which made him act on such impulse.

It's just that this poor child, clearly being abused, reminded him of his younger self.

"It's t-the snake! It didn't l-like our offering and is attacking t-the village. Please!" Hearing the despair in the child's voice truly shook Adam to his core, but a more sinister truth ticked him off. The same thought also entered in Evan's mind, making him clench his fists.

The child was the offering.

Even though the clothes were in rags, it could be recognised as a ceremonial toga, one worn by sacrifices. The child also had markings painted under all the filth covering him, but they had been too faint to recognize at first glance.

Adam and Evan had heard of such practices in the past. Villages that were situated near a resting monster would offer children to it as to beg for its protection and forgiveness. It would normally work, as stronger beasts had a higher intelligence.

For some reason, this time, it seemed like it pissed the snake off.

"They don't deserve to be saved. They wanted you dead." Evan angrily said, his lips pinched in a tight line as he tried to keep his anger in check. He shouldn't frighten the kid.

"I-I know... but I don't want a-anyone to die because of me... n-not anymore..." The young slave whispered as tears streamed down his face, washing away the dirt and revealing white snowy skin. Adam exchanged looks with his lover, his hesitation making his two eyebrow furrow together as worried lines appeared on his forehead.

They couldn't just leave the child alone, but they also couldn't just take him away and let the villagers die.

It would weigh down on the kid's mind.
