"Those jerks..." Adam whispered angrily, tearing apart the Wanted poster with his face on it. Sure, his family had mistreated him and abused him, but he never thought that they would treat him like a thief and place a bounty on his head. What was he supposed to do now? His notoriety would be ruined...
Evan watched his master as the latter chewed aggressively on his thumb's nail, wracking his brain to find a solution. The slave took Adam's poor hand that was being tortured and tugged the man toward a clothing store. The warrior followed him passively, stumbling a little as he tried to catch up on Evan's long strides. Blaze ran beside them, not a care in the world.
Evan pushed Adam into the store before hurriedly picking a long black cape with a hood. He also picked a white one for himself before throwing it on Adam. The warrior flinched at the sudden movement toward him, but then blinked his eyes open as he felt the tissue covering his whole body. He didn't even have time to react that Evan was tying a black cloth around his mouth and then doing the same with his own.
The giant then turned the warrior toward the mirror, taking a step behind him so they could see both their bodies clearly. With the two capes and the masks, the only thing that could be seen was their piercing eyes and the area around it. Adam's eyes widened at the idea, it was perfect. People wouldn't be able to recognize him as the picture on the poster had ugly deformed eyes drawn on it, completely different from his almond shaped ones.
The couple paid for the capes, before exiting the store and heading toward the mountains, where their next quest was.
As they passed the guards, Adam and Evan averted their eyes, trying not to catch anyone's attention, but it proved useless. All the city was looking for a man traveling alone, not a couple of lovers and a fox. No one even blinked in their direction.
It was starting to get late in the afternoon, but the two men decided to complete the quest that was most urgent, and take this opportunity far from prying ears to discuss their next series of actions. With Adam's face everywhere in the city, it would be difficult to proceed with their normal life. They needed to leave to a faraway country that could hide them.
"We need to hide until people forget me and build our strength, and then we can strike back at my family. Exposing their lies would do nothing, as they are pretty influential. We need to kill them all." Adam said in a somber tone. He didn't have any love or affection for this supposed family. No one was innocent, even his sisters and brothers. They had all abused him in some way. Letting them live could only lead to more people being abused by them. The nobles' roots were darkened until no repair could be done.
Killing them was the best thing to do, for everyone.
"Are you sure, Master?" Evan asked to confirm, he didn't want his partner to regret his acts later on. Death couldn't be reversed. Adam would have to deal with the repercussions all his life.
"Yes, it must be done. I much prefer if we are the ones to do it, then others. Such work should be done by the ones concerned to guarantee a peace of mind. If you are afraid of killing nobles, I can do it myself." Adam answered, his face held high and his voice not shaking the slightless. He was truly convinced that what he was doing was right. He wouldn't regret it.
"If you think so, then so be it. I wanted to torture them all since you told me about your past, so it's good for me too. Everywhere you go, I shall follow." Evan swore, bringing his fist to his chest in a solemn way. Adam turned his head to the opposite side, but he couldn't fully hide from Evan's view the relieved smile that graced his lips. The giant let his own lips curl into a smirk, happy that his shy master was enjoying his company.
Blaze trotted beside them, peacefully minding his own business as he jumped after butterflies.
"Where should we go to train? We can't stay here for too long..." Evan restarted the conversation as he realized that Adam was feeling too embarrassed by his happiness to speak first. The warrior titled his head to the side, seriously pondering about this question.
"Let's fight while I think about it. We should stay in Dispel for a few weeks to amass money and experience, and then leave." Adam concluded as they reached the dungeon' entrance. The cavern's mouth was wide open with fangs-like rocks falling from the roof. A slight wind carrying mana flew continuously from the pitch black entry. On the outside, just on the left, was a sign that warned adventurers and passersby of the dungeon hiding in the depth of the cavern.
The couple, unbothered, entered the cave side by side.
They walked unhurried, letting time for Adam to think about the question. As they faced giant ants a few minutes after entering, the men fought with fiery combinations, easily winning the battle. Adam used his spear to pierce the ants' head, while Evan swung his fist covered in his new gloves, smashing every insect to the ground.
They left a trail of purple blood, ants' carcasses and ice spikes behind them as they headed deeper into the dungeon's mouth.
They encountered a few other monsters, going from goblins to orcs, passing by water porcupines. Adam would challenge his skills in ice control, forming spears in a circle around him or shooting ice balls from the tip of his spear. He swung his weapon like it was an extension of his arm, nearly dancing around it as he twirled his body in the air, taking anchor into the walls and roof to propel himself toward beasts.
Evan wasn't left behind as he punched the monsters, showing off his strong martial arts knowledge and skills. Flying kicks sent goblins to death's door, tiger claws ripped orcs' faces off and back elbow pierced porcupines' stomachs. A large variety of skills were mastered and shown, making Adam glance from time to time toward his lover's strong body flexing his muscles.
The capes would open as they both moved, making it possible to see their bodies underneath, but their faces always remained hidden. The capes had a magic function that kept the hood from sliding off unless the wearer chose to, so the couple didn't fear for their identities to be discovered while fighting.
Blaze would also showcase his strength by ripping apart the monsters with his fangs, or using his mana to burn his foe to death.
The fox didn't want to be left behind in the fun.
