Never Too Late by Three Days Grace~

"You are really mistaken, I swear. I was looking at Lev like that because I thought that he would make a cute couple with Sylvie. That's it!" Adam hurried to say as Evan set him down on his foot. The giant titled his head, considering what his master had said, and indeed, the two elves would look good together. Lev seemed like a good person too.

Evan also trusted Adam to say the truth, he would believe anything that his master says.

"I see, sorry for misunderstanding." The slave admitted his own fault, feeling guilty for letting his possessiveness take control over his logic. It wasn't healthy, and he knew. Evan helped Adam smoothen the wrinkles on his clothes while making a mental note to dote on the warrior tonight to try and make amends.

Evan would also remind Adam to tell his safe word if he ever took things too far.

Seeing the guilt in the giant's eyes, Adam breathed out, glad that the misunderstanding was solved. He wouldn't admit it, but he had felt kind of cold when Evan had taken his hands off of him. He had thought that he would feel more secure, but just thinking of the giant leaving him without solving the issue was making his chest hurt. He much preferred an angry and touchy Evan than a cold and distant one.

He would also never admit that the situation had slightly aroused him despite his fear.

Lev came back after confirming their identities and handed them new cards that showed they were adventurers from Dispel. The couple looked at each other as they noted that their rank had gone up from F to E already, only after one quest.

"Are you sure there were no mistakes? We only did one quest..." Adam asked Lev, Evan nodding beside him. He didn't mind being promoted so fast, but he needed to make sure that there were no mistakes or it could penalize them later on. They could be accused of lying on the quests they did to get a higher rank. Some people did it, because with a higher rank, you also got better quests with more rewards. It could lead to an adventurer leaching off a strong party and eventually bringing risks because of their uselessness.

"Everything is correct. Merchant Bastien vouched for you two and named a few of the monsters you defeated. You both deserve the promotion with your abilities." The dark elf answered with a half smile, his ears slightly going up to show his good mood. Lev liked adventurers like Adam and Evan, they didn't act cocky, nor tried to profit from illegal means, even if they were powerful. It had surprised him to see two adventurers coming from Kesenka to settle in Dispel, as it was usually the contrary. Dispel didn't have much to offer to adventurers. They seemed like good people, if it could be considered as proof of their lack of greed.

He also wondered who this Sylvie was, and if she was like those two.

He had a pretty good hearing and had heard everything the two lovers had said. Lev had noted the way Adam looked at him, but had just thought of it as curiosity as he felt no ill intent. Still, hearing that they shipped him with an unknown woman was picking his interest. It had been a long time since he had been in a relationship, or at least a healthy one. His last one didn't count.

Maybe it was time to go out of his forced celibacy, he would need to see for himself what kind of person this Sylvie was.

Adam and Evan's image of Bastien improved significantly as they heard Lev's words. The dryad's recommendation would allow them to skip quests like harvesting weed and the like. If they wanted to take revenge, then they would need to get stronger fast, and sadly, collecting herbs wasn't going to improve their battle skills.

The couple thanked the elf before heading toward the quests' board. Adam was tempted to look at the A rank quests, but he refrained from doing so and instead directly went to the E rank ones. No need to torture himself with salivating quests.

"Do you have one you are interested in?" Adam asked, not seeing anything worth it. It was mostly goblins or wolf quests. Goblins hunted in small packs, but were stupid and disorganized, while wolves were ordinary animals just slightly more aggressive and prone to attack humans. Just a normal commoner with a bit of knowledge about fighting could handle them. Evan shook his head, not seeing anything either. Suddenly, the door to the guild opened with a loud noise, drawing people's attention to it.

There stood an old woman with worn out clothes holding a crying infant in her arms. The lady struggled to catch her breath while trying to say something, but it appeared like she had run a long distance at high speed as it took her quite a while. Lev took action as the other receptionists hesitated on how to react. The elf approached the woman and gently guided her to a seat, reassuring her that there were people that would help her with whatever she needed.

"Thank you, young man. I'm Adel, from Mikiki village. Our village urgently needs help! A large pack of goblins attacked us, but they seemed smarter than normal ones, they even used wolves as their montures! My daughter helped me escape with her baby while she stayed to fight, but they won't be able to defend the village much longer. We don't have much to offer, but, please, adventurers, help us!" The lady sobbed as she finished narrating her story. At first, the adventurers surrounding her seemed interested, but after hearing about the lack of reward, they turned their back to her, looking like they hadn't heard her story. Seeing such a treatment, Lev clenched his fists and had to hold back from shouting at the cowards, even as the woman started to cry harder along with the baby.

The elf had long since lost hope in Dispel's adventurer, seeing as such matters often happened and that no one volunteered in most cases. The villages surrounding Dispel were vulnerable to monsters due to their lack of capable fighters and because they had no defensive walls, compared to the city. The villagers' crops would attract monsters like goblins, while the cattles looked delicious to wolves. After the monsters' passage, not much would be left for the villagers, who would then get poorer and would have no money to buy seeds or young cattles. They would then have even less to buy guards or make requests to adventurers.

It was a vicious fate.

Adam was no stranger to such an outcome, as he had seen plenty of similar fate to the villagers in Kesenka. He, of course, could do nothing in the past, as bringing attention to himself would lead to a possible execution if his family thought that he had been hiding his power to rebel.

However, now, it was a different situation.

He could finally help those in need.

Hey dear readers, Adam can finally accomplish his dream!

Adventurers are pretty trashy
