The convoy traveled safely all day long, a few monsters here and there attacking them, but never enough so that Evan and Adam needed to help. They were paid an extra amount for each time they needed to join the merchant's warriors, so they could only help them under direct orders. Adam had taken out a few dried beef stripes after a few hours of traveling, handing half to his bear and eating the rest. The couple rode back to chest in a comfortable silence, their horse's gallop making their body rub against each other.

At first, the warrior had felt slightly awkward and wanted to get down, but with Evan's soft grip on his chest and lower stomach, and the giant soft breath tickling the back of his nappe, he had chosen to remain silent. Even if it was embarrassing to admit, and he would never admit it outloud, he was grateful for the slave's presence. Having to leave his family so suddenly, or more like the place where he grew up, was pretty unnerving. He could try to convince himself that he didn't mind, but the facts were clear, his own parents had tried to sell him to a known sadist, and his siblings had been ecstatic at the news. It was like receiving a knife in the back.

It hurt. More than he was willing to admit.

Evan had been like a gift sent by the Gods, a reminder that he could be loved. He wouldn't have to pass through this pain alone. He may have been thrown off guard by Evan's attachment at first, but he had grown accustomed to it, and couldn't quite contemplate a future without the giant breathing down his neck. They may not have made love yet, but Adam felt like his entire being already belonged to his slave, which was quite funny considering the fact that he was supposed to be the master.

The warrior let out a chuckle at the thought. Evan glanced down at his strange partner, wondering if the man had hit his head or something. However, even if Adam had turned into a fool, he was his fool, so he would follow him to ensure his safety. The giant gently rubbed Adam's hip bone, caressing the cinnamon skin there that was marked with a bite mark.

Evan put his chin atop Adam's mess of hairs, not putting all his weight on the smaller man, but still enough to make the warrior curve his back and let out a dissatisfied grumble. The giant took in a long inhale, smelling the spicy scent of his partner as he hugged the man into his huge arms, caging him in.

Suddenly, his arms tightened and his brows furrowed. At the same time, Adam's muscles stiffened.

Rustling was heard and before anyone could react, one of the guards at the front had his head ripped off. Blood sputtered everywhere as the headless body slid down his panicking horse's back. The poor animal went on his back legs, throwing his front ones around with a scared neigh as it tried to thrown the dead weight off his back without any luck before running as far as he could, the headless body following behind it as the feet were still attached to the saddle, thus leaving a trail of dark crimson blood.

Bastien cursed softly as his guards started to get agitated, no one having seen what creature had attacked them. It had killed one of them before hiding in the forest again. They were surrounded by forest, their convoy on a rocky path as they traversed it. The trees weren't far from each other, with abundant bushes, making it hard to see anything hiding.

"I think we will need you both, make sure that your pay is well earned or the adventurer guild will hear from me." Bastien said, getting down from the carriage where he had been looking at his accounting book beside the coachman. The couple immediately disembarked from their horse, readying themselves for the battle. The merchant quickly hid with his merchandise, knowing that his presence would only be a hindrance.

The guards created a circle around the horses and their belongings, with Evan and Adam at the front. The warrior had taken his spear and input magic to make it longer. The slave didn't have any weapons, as he was more accustomed to crushing things with his fists instead of wielding swords or daggers.
