Adam and Evan waited side by side in silence as Blaze absorbed the fire stone. They didn't feel the need to make small talk, satisfied with just their shoulders brushing and their skin touching.
Neither were very talkative after all.
Seeing as the fox was entering a meditative state, precursor of an awakening, they both knew that it would take a while. Evan felt the opportunity and took it, grabbing Adam's hand and dragging him into the cave's depths. The warrior weakly protested with rosy cheeks as he knew what was to come, but Evan only smirked as he didn't feel any physical resistance. His hedgehog was only a little shy.
After who knows how long, Blaze finally opened his eyes, an excited glint in his fiery pupils.
The fox jumped on his paws and looked around, searching for his masters. He didn't have to wander too far, as both men came back from a dark corner. Blaze titled his head to the side, smelling a strong musky scent coming from both of them. The beast's brain processed the way Adam walked funnily, and how disheveled their clothes and hair were, before letting out a snort.
How rude of his masters, here he was, struggling to awaken, while they were mating not far away.
Adam swatted Evan's hand that was once again venturing toward his bottom, still red and stinging from earlier, and instead turned his focus on Blaze. The fox's fur looked shinier and fuller, and the skinny beast had seemed to gain a few pounds.
"You look great, Blaze." Adam said, his voice scratchy. He coughed to hide his embarrassment, before remembering that Blaze was only a fox, he couldn't understand what they had been doing. Reassured by this thought, his shyness melted away like snow when spring came.
Of course, Blaze already knew what his masters had been doing.
At the warrior's compliment, the beast proudly held his head high, his tail swishing fast behind him. He waited for his master to ask about his awakening, but he got only silence in return. He opened his eyes slightly, peeking through his eyelashes, but got disappointed as he realized that the couple was starting to prepare the snake's corpse for the journey back.
The fox let out an irritated puff of air, drawing both partners' attention.
"What's wrong, Blaze?" Adam asked as he stopped tying ropes around the snake's huge body. The warrior looked confused as the fox glared at him, and then at Evan when the latter faced him. Without another sound, the fox jumped in the air.
Adam's eyes widened as a sudden transformation took place, the air shifting in the cave into a hotter one if it was even possible. Even Evan's jaw dropped to the floor as he looked at where Blaze had been standing.
There, on the ground, now stood a child looking no more than six years old.
A very naked boy, with only a big fluffy tail above his butt that tried to cover his intimate parts, and fox-like ears that kept drooping on top of his head. His hair was a dark orange, nearly black, like Blaze's coat had been, and then blended with his tail and ears to become a lighter orange. The child looked at both frozen men with cute orange eyes, sparkling like jewels. He had a button-nose, cheeks like peaches and a pouty mouth.
All in all, he looked absolutely cute to death.
Adam's heart squeezed because of the unnatural amount of sugar he had just ingested, his teeth aching painfully as the young boy titled his head, his mouth opening in a small toothy smile that revealed two little fangs. A sharp intake was heard in the cave, and Evan nervously glanced at his partner to make sure that Adam wouldn't faint from the lack of air.
He wasn't bewitched by the child's adorable appearance like Adam was, but he had to admit that he wasn't as annoying as the other larvae that normally made his nerves fry. In his eyes, the kid was a much chubbier and shorter larva than the other, giving quite the satisfying image, just like a round dumpling.
It made one want to squeeze him to death.
Blaze sneezed, not accustomed to the cold air without his fur. The sound seemed to break the spell the couple was under, and Adam rushed toward the child, hurriedly putting his shirt on the boy to cover his nakedness. The baggy shirt immediately covered Blaze's whole body, only the tip of his tail showing, and his head through the opening.
Before he could utter a word, Adam's world went black and it took him a few seconds to realize that Evan had thrown his shirt on him. While he grumbled, the warrior still put on the shirt correctly, secretly enjoying the fact that he could smell the giant's addicting scent and feel his warmth, like a hug.
He also realized that the slave had done so to hide the numerous marks he had just made all over his torso and back.
He, however, chose to act like a fool and convince himself that the giant had done so just because he wanted to.
It definitely wasn't because of the hickeys and bruises.
Nop.
After falling into delusion, Adam tried to help Blaze put his arms through the shirt's sleeves, chuckling as the child's hands couldn't be seen even as he stretched them to their full length.
"What happened, Blaze? Is it normal? Can you shift back?" Adam rambled like a worried mother hen, looking all over the fox's body to make sure that he was uninjured. Blaze let him do as he pleases for a short while, enjoying the attention he was getting. His own parents had never felt any emotion toward him, even less worry. It was a foreign feeling, but he loved every second of it.
Seeing that the child was staying quiet and not answering his panicking partner on purpose, Evan grunted, glaring down at the fox. Just because he was cuter now didn't mean he could play with his prey's emotions like that.
Blaze instantly froze up, remembering the various threats that Evan had made toward him, and chose it to be wiser to answer before the bear rose up from his hibernation.
"It's normal, I'm perfectly fine. I'm a rare kind of half beast half man, and this is my first awakening. As I consume more monsters' cores, I will grow and become stronger. I can shift, but it consumes energy, and I don't have enough right now because of the awakening. Don't you like my new form, Master?" Blaze answered and then asked the question with a pout, his whole body drooping along with his ears as he stared at the ground with watery eyes.
"No, no, it's not that! I like this version too, you are very cute!" Adam hurried to say, taking the child in his arms to comfort him. He wasn't used to interacting with children, so he was greatly panicking inside. Normally, kids were afraid of him, so he never had to talk with one. He tried to think of all the mothers and fathers he had seen with their child, and he felt like that was what they all did when their kids came crying to them after seeing Adam's frosty face. They would take the boy or girl in their arms and squeeze them close, whispering reassuring words.
As the warrior anxiously swung his body back and forth, much harder than necessary, he rambled to Blaze about anything he could think of to take the fox's mind off of his sad thoughts. He knew what it was like to feel rejected and unwanted, and he never wished for anyone to feel the same way.
Ever.
All the while, Evan glared at the fox as Blaze smirked at him from above Adam's shoulder. The little pest sure knew what he was doing and how to act to pick at the warrior's emotional strings.
Evan knew he should have killed the fox when first meeting him.
Now, he had an opponent to fight against for Adam's attention and affection.
Hey dear readers, I know some of you expected it.
