Their little family didn't really have time to celebrate their victory and Evan's recovery, as they were soon surrounded by angry villagers shouting at them to go away. Like Adam had expected, those greedy people were mad that they had killed the snake, cutting them off of their supply of cash from the adventurers' guild.

Adam had to act quickly and catch Blaze before the fox could start to scream at the villagers. The shifter was red with anger at being chased like that, not understanding how they could be so ungrateful.

They had just saved all of their lives, but instead of being grateful and thanking them, they were being thrown stones and called names. It was a truly mortifying sight.

Well, maybe that was to be expected from children's abusers.

Adam helped Evan get up, the giant still weak from having nearly died. The couple stumbled as they walked across the roofs, Blaze following after them with Ash still asleep in his arms. The warrior didn't want to confront the angry villagers, he knew that arguing with those irrational people would lead to nowhere.

The villagers, seemingly too weak after running away from the snake, didn't try to climb the houses, only following their family from a good distance while they shouted and threw rocks.

Adam made Blaze pass before them so that he could shield the two children with his body. He grunted as a sharper rock hit his scapula, and from the way Evan growled as he glanced at his back, the rock must have broken the skin.

"Hush." The dark-skinned man whispered to his lover, not wanting to attract the villagers' fury even more. The giant only mumbled a 'I know' in return, biting down on his tongue to keep himself from lashing out at the pests hurting his partner.

It was all so unfair.

When they finally reached the outer circle of the village, the family was all exhausted from the fight and from running away. Adam had hoped that they could have stocked up on supplies, but it was probably a futile hope. Even now as they were ready to get down from the roof, villagers blocked their path. Blaze growled at them, flames coming out of his mouth in small wafts, licking the corners of his lips as he tried to keep his anger in check.

"Satanic beast! And you too, dirty fags, you should all rot in hell! You don't deserve to breathe the same air as us... Did you really think you could run away like this after making such a big mess? How are you going to compensate us? And you were going to take our slave away too, child kidnappers!" One older man approached the house they were standing on as he shouted, projectiles of saliva flying everywhere as he spat out insults, waving a stick around like a deranged man. From the way the other villagers started to scream the same things, surrounding the man in a protective circle, it seemed like he was the village's leader.

"Should I just kill them all..." Adam mumbled as he raised one of his eyebrows, looking down at the villagers from where he was perched. Evan nodded seriously, looking like he was already calculating how many he could take on in his head. The villagers, ignorant of the danger they were in, continued to insult them. The couple had yet to meet openly homophobic people since they started dating, people not caring or too scared to say anything.

It was a frustrating feeling, knowing that they couldn't even defend themselves, because the ears of their assailant were closed with prejudices. Believes made the villagers blind to their love, the poor too offended for no reason to try to understand them. Adam and Evan hadn't even done anything outrageous like fucking on the middle of the street, they had only expressed their love for each other after one of them nearly died.

Wasn't it a normal thing to do?

In here, it seemed like the biggest insult they could have done, even more offending than killing the snake and thus their only source of income.

"Dad, can I kill them all?" Blaze asked in a loud voice, making all the villagers shut up at the threat. Adam glanced down at the child holding his friend, big sparkly orange iris looking back at him with a deadly calm. The shifter spoke as if he was talking about going shopping, even though the words spoken were far from it.

"M-monster!" The old man said, yet he stumbled back, raising his shaft with shaky hands.

"Oh, shut the fuck up," Adam shouted, his patience having reached its limit, "I'm tired of you all. Didn't you see us kill the snake? Do you seriously think you can stop us? You should be glad that we don't simply kill you all. To answer your questions, yes we will get away without any repercussions, because we saved your ungrateful lives, and because we can. We won't compensate you, it should be the contrary, so be glad that we leave quietly. As for the 'child kidnappers' issue, taking a poor child away from his abusers isn't kidnapping. Now, get the fuck away before I allow my son to take revenge."

Adam barked the words, looking ready to tear apart anyone coming too close to his liking. The villagers flinched, glancing around to see if there was a soul brave enough to defend them from the oh so dangerous villain. Sadly for them, their leader was already running away with his tail between his legs. Thus, the rest of the village did the same, scrambling to get away from the outer circle of the village.

Adam signed as they were left alone, glad that they didn't have to fight. He may have looked confident, but the truth was, they were all too exhausted to fight. They wouldn't have been able to win against the whole village. Still, his bluff worked, and now they needed to leave before the villagers understood that he was lying.

Adam helped Evan get down from the roof, and they then headed toward the hidden place where Adam had left Ash. They needed to get their bags back from where he had left them with the child. Ash hadn't brought anything when he came to save Evan, so they must have still been there.

Adam was right in his thinking, finding their things where he had left them.

"Here, you can put Ash there." Adam told Blaze as he spread a blanket on the ground with their best pillow. The shifter did as told, being extra cautious with his new friend. The warrior smiled as he saw how Blaze was acting, taking his time to make sure the sleeping child was comfortable on his quickly-made bed. He twisted the child's head one way then another as he made sure that he was sleeping straight, pushing back the bangs falling on his face. When the fox was finally satisfied, he covered the child with another blanket and settled him in.

He then rocked his body back on his heels, looking expectantly at the snake and waiting for him to wake up.

Adam and Evan found it really cute.

Hey dear readers, what did you think of the villagers?

Did Adam handle the situation well?
