"Y-you are my grandmother?" Adam asked to be sure after Athena had calmed down. The lady nodded, bringing the pendant close to her chest. She slowed down her breathing, quietening her hiccups.

"I instantly recognized her in you, you are nearly identical. Rick, our scout, was a playmate with your mother when they were young, he was also the last one to have seen her before she went missing. He must have seen her in you too. Also, everyone in our family has names starting with A." The elder explained, before handing the pendant back to its owner. Adam gratefully took it back, having feared that the lady would want to keep it to reminisce her daughter.

"Missing?" The warrior asked, wanting more clarifications. He had always wondered how his mother had ended up with his father. From her tattoos, she looked too loyal to the tribe to run away with a foreigner, and his father didn't have any tattoos, so he didn't get accepted by the tribe. His birth remained a mystery, until now.

"She was kidnapped. We realized too late. She was a strong warrior, and one of our best scouts. However, she was also a stunning beauty. I had always feared such a day would come. She was on scouting duty with Rick and her sister, Anna, when it happened. They heard suspicious noises around the forest and decided to split up. When Rick and Anna realized that she had been gone too long, they searched for her. However, they only found traces of struggle and fighting, Adeline was long gone. We found this emblem on the ground." Athena told the story like it was painful, before getting up and coming back with a gold plate.

"That's my father's emblem. Don't worry, I already planned to get revenge on my supposed family for personal reasons, I will make sure to avenge your daughter." Adam vowed, recognizing the emblem. It was his father's personal one, no one could wear it apart from him. Knowing his father's ideologies, Adam could easily guess that the young Duke must have felt a strong lust toward the beautiful amazone and decided to keep her as a sex slave, like it was common for nobles to do with savages.

However, his father presented himself as a clean Duke among the nobles, so he must have made her his dirty secret before killing her once the situation became too dangerous. He had then told lies about Adam's birth and kept him hidden from society as to avoid suspicion, bringing his own wife into the shenanigan.

"Her sister went looking for her, but she never found any clues. She had to come back a few years ago to get ready to inherit the tribe from me. I'm sure she would be overjoyed to see her only nephew and to hear that." Athena suggested, stirring the discussion into a more cheerful topic. Adam shrugged, not really knowing what to feel about meeting new people, even more a family he didn't know he had.

"Are you sure? Aren't we outsiders?" Adam asked, feeling like the meeting was going too well. Yes, he had a blood-relation with them, but it didn't make him an exception from the rules. There had been others in the past.

"Oh, I thought you came here with your family to be accepted into the tribe, is it not the case? It's true that we don't normally accept children from outside, but it's a different case if the parent was forcefully taken from our tribe. You just need to go through the trials, and your family too." Athena explained, wondering if she had been mistaken. She was glad to have learnt of her daughter's fate, even though it wasn't a pleasant one. At least, she had left her a good son. She could feel Adam's neutral nature, not one to be prone to evil, nor a goody-two-shoes that does everything he is asked and makes stupid decisions in the name of goodness. He had a loyal character, ready to hurt those that harmed his family. He was fundamentally prone to help the weak and fight the strong, a rare trait, but much welcome in their tribe.

Their ancestors would be proud of him, her daughter included.

"Erm, well... In fact, I was mostly curious about my mom. We are also here to get stronger, we have many powerful foes to get rid of, but we lack strength and training. We would love to be accepted into the tribe, but we will need to leave one day... And I know tribe's members are normally not allowed to leave once accepted." Adam told Athena of their circumstances, hoping that they could still profit from their trip. He hoped that they hadn't made their journey for nothing.

Of course, it wouldn't be completely for nothing as they met Ash, and Adam learned about his mother, but it wasn't enough.

"Mmm, I understand. If you could wait, I need to hold a meeting with my council. I can't make this decision on my own." The elder tried to find a middle-ground, knowing that she couldn't say yes on her own, but not wanting to send back Adam so soon too. The warrior nodded, making the old lady sigh in relief. She got up, refilling their tea cups and putting more cookies on the ground table, before leaving the tent to hold the council.

Now, they could only wait until the decision was made.

"Are you feeling fine?" Evan quietly asked Adam as he scooted closer, leaving the children to wolf down the food on the table. The warrior looked at his lover before shrugging. It was a lot to take in. To think that his own father probably raped and abused his mother. He knew that the Duke was a scumbag, but he didn't think he was that much of a scum. It was probably why the Duke had not hesitated to sell him to a known sadist and rapist.

They were two birds of a feather.

The giant felt saddened that his lover was feeling down. He could see how much what they just learned impacted him. They hadn't gone into details because of the children present, but the adults could easily guess what happened.

Evan scooted even closer until his shoulder brushed against Adam's one. He held the warrior's head and put it on his shoulder, gently patting his head and caressing his shoulder up and down. Adam burrowed his face into the giant's neck, muffling any sound he could make.

Evan remained respectfully silent even as he felt the tremors shake Adam's body and the warm liquid dripping down his neck and chest.

Hey dear readers, now we know what happened to Adam's mom...
