“We aren’t your friends anymore Marinette.” The class had decided it was time to cut ties with, as they saw it, the toxic designer. All Lila ever talked about anymore was how Marinette kept harassing her and attacking her. They didn’t think Marinette could do it, but when Lila showed them ‘proof’ they decided that things had gone to far.

They had expected that Marinette would burst into tears. That she would beg them to reconsider and promise to be better. But that didn’t happen. Marinette didn’t feel upset. Lately, her ‘friendships’ with the class had felt like a heavy weight on her shoulders. She was only the class rep because of a feeling of duty to her friend. And she had brought so much additional work on her plate because they kept asking for free food, clothes, and babysitting services. She did all this because they were her ‘friends’. Now that they weren’t, it felt like a major burden had been lifted. She didn’t feel a need to do all these things anymore.

“Ok, then we are not friends anymore. And because of that, I resign as class rep, effective immediately. Also, from now on, if you guys want food, clothes, or babysitting, you will pay me like everyone else. And no sudden notice. Clothes require at least three weeks notice from the date you need it. Food need at least five days notice. Babysitting needs at least two days notice. No exceptions.” The class was shocked and tried to argue with her. “You can’t just quit being class rep. What will we do now? And we never had to pay for that stuff before!” Marinette stared at them with a blank face. “I don’t care what you guys do, but I am done working myself to the bone for people that aren’t even my friends. And you never had to pay because I don’t charge my friends. But you just said it yourselves, we aren’t friends anymore. Bye guys.” Marinette just left the class standing there in shock.

The class thought it wouldn’t be a big deal to replace Marinette. Marinette ended up switching to Mrs. Mendeleiev’s class to get away from the drama. Alya took over in the interim, but they elected Lila pretty quickly. Lila didn’t think it would be hard, and she would be more popular because of this. But that didn’t happen. This was so hard, Lila didn’t know how Marinette did it. The class was starting to crash and burn. No trips worked as plan. All the fundraisers failed miserably. The class couldn’t believe it, but they weren’t willing to go back to Marinette. They also couldn’t just get food and clothes whenever they wanted now. And Alya couldn’t just dump the twins and Chris on Marinette so she could go on dates. She did try, thinking that Marinette didn’t mean what she said. But she was turned away at the door, and Marinette refused to take the kids, leaving Alya to do the babysitting and no way to go on her date.

The class was in shambles. They had realized that Lila was a liar when she wasn’t able to make anything work for the class. They couldn’t believe how bad things had gotten since Marinette wasn’t taking care of things anymore. The class didn’t want her to realize that the class was a mess. But word traveled fast and soon the whole school knew what had happened with the class and that things were going horribly wrong. The class decided to beg for forgiveness. They approached Marinette at lunch the next day. “Marinette please, we need you back in the class. Things have gone so wrong. Lila couldn’t do your job. Please we need our friend back.” Marinette rolled her eyes, as did all her friends at the lunch table. “Sorry guys, but no. Remember? We aren’t friends anymore.” The class was resigned as Marinette turned back to her new friends and left the class without any help. They realized that this was their fault. They are the reason they lost their closest friend, all for a liar.
