Before the Rossi family left, Marinette and Ashley approached Mrs. Rossi. “Mrs. Rossi, if I may ask, why was it such a big deal to Lila that I didn’t pay attention to her. And why did she freak out and try to ruin Marinette when Marinette called her out on her lies.” Mrs. Rossi just sighed, before turning to face the two girls.

“When Lila was young, she spent most of her time alone. People ignored her at school and she didn’t have many friends. Kids at school said she was boring and harassed her. When we moved to a new city back in Italy, she said she wanted to reinvent herself. I thought that meant change her personality a bit, maybe a change of fashion. But she started lying to make friends. When she brought some friends home, they said something that told me about Lila lying. I spoke with her that she couldn’t lie to make friends and I thought she understood that. I guess she didn’t, and just started covering her tracks better. I am so sorry she bothered you girls.”

Marinette and Ashley stared at Lila sitting in the backseat of her mother’s car, shocked by what they had just heard. Marinette turned back to Mrs. Rossi. “She threatened to steal all my friends, because she had a lonely childhood? I would have thought it was something more dramatic.” Mrs. Rossi just sighed, looking at her daughter sadly. “I think she was jealous of you Marinette. She probably saw you with all these friends, everything she ever wanted, and she wanted it too. I guess after the lack of attention in her childhood, she wants all the attention on her now. I am truly sorry. Lila won’t bother either of you again.” Mrs. Rossi gets into the car, where Lila has been sitting, sobbing. The two ladies drive off and Marinette and Ashley never hear from Lila again.
