The class was thrilled their plan had worked. Marinette had continued to escalate her harassment of Lila and the class decided it was time to teach her a lesson. They were on a class trip to New York a few days ago when they enacted their plan.

They slipped into Marinette’s room and turned off her phone alarm on the day that they were scheduled to go back to Paris. They knew that Marinette would miss the flight and sleep in without the alarm. They also made sure to tear up her ticket, so Mrs. Bustier would be less likely to notice the missing designer.

Their plan worked perfectly and Marinette was left behind, alone in New York. Luckily, her grandmother Gina was apparently in New York traveling, at the time. So, Marinette wasn’t alone for long. But the fact remains, that her teacher and class left her in New York. The Dupain-Chengs are furious. And the furious Dupain-Chengs are not a force to be trifled with.

The class returned to the school the first Monday after they returned, still proud of their success. Alya laughed, clutching her stomach. “I can’t imagine Marinette’s face when she realized she was left behind. That will teach her to mess with Lila.” The class kept laughing as they entered the class room, excited for another good day in Mrs. Bustier’s class.

But when they got into the classroom though, they see an unknown woman standing at Mrs. Bustier’s desk. When she sees the class, the woman says in a commanding voice, “Take your seats immediately. We have a lot to cover today.” The class hesitantly walked to their seats. After they were seated, Nino finally asked the question on everyone’s mind. “Excuse me miss? Who are you? Where is Mrs. Bustier?”

The woman turned towards the chalkboard before answering in a dull tone. “I am Mrs. Laurent. I will be your new teacher. Mrs. Bustier has been terminated from her position.” The class was outraged and began to yell out. “What?!” “What do you mean she is fired!?” “Why was she fired?! She did nothing wrong!”
———————-
Mrs. Laurent slams her hands on her desk, silencing the class. “That is enough! Mrs. Bustier may have given you free reign in this class, but I am not Mrs. Bustier. You will raise your hands and wait for permission before you speak. The next one who speaks out of turn, will be given detention.” The class is quieted, and Nino raises his hand. When he was given permission to speak, Nino asked, “Why was Mrs. Bustier fired?”

Mrs. Laurent sighs before answering. “She was negligent in her duties on the class trip. She left a student alone in New York. That is unforgivable, and she was let go. She is also likely to face charges for child endangerment, if the Dupain-Chengs have anything to say about it.” The class is horrified. Alya jumps up, yelling, “She didn’t do anything! We were the ones that caused Marinette to be left behind! It wasn’t her fault!” Mrs. Laurent yells over Alya. “Miss Cesaire! Detention! And regardless, Mrs. Bustier should have noticed she was short a student. Regardless of if she directly caused Miss Dupain-Cheng to be left behind, she should have noticed and fixed the problem.”

The rest of the day, class was very subdued. They were horrified that they had caused Mrs. Bustier to be fired. They tried to explain things to the school board, but they were met with the same explanation as Mrs. Laurent’s. That regardless of who caused Marinette to miss the flight, it was Mrs. Bustier’s responsibility to make sure all her students were accounted for.

Marinette ended up transferring schools after the debacle, her parents not wanting her to stay in a school with such irresponsible faculty. The class was miserable with their new teacher. She was so much stricter and meaner than Mrs. Bustier was. It was almost like their punishment for their part in what happened. The class would give anything to have Mrs. Bustier back as their teacher.
