Summary:
Marinette and Chloé used to be the best of friends. They were inseparable until one day they weren't. Years later Marinette finally asks "Why? What could have possibly changed to make Chloé so antagonistic towards her?" It's time to get some answers.5 year old Marinette Dupain-Cheng hurried out of her room practically vibrating with excitement.
"What's got you so excited sweetie?" Her mother Sabine Cheng asked with a smile on her face knowing fully well what this was about.
Marinette enthusiastically responds, "It's almost time for my playdate with Chloé! She's been spending the week with her mom and we haven't gotten to see each other in forever."
"I don't think a week counts as forever Marinette", said an amused Sabine.
"But it feels like forever ", responded Marinette.
"Alright, alright so how about I drop you off at Le Grand Paris so you don't have to wait any longer hm?" Sabine asked.
"Yesssss!", screamed the little bluenette.
After a short trip to the hotel, Marinette hurriedly runs into the building making sure to say hello to the doorman along the way and heads towards Chloé's room. Knocking on the door she said happily, "Chloé it's me Marinette, it's time for our playdate!"
"Go away", was the response she received.
"Chloé are you ok?", Marinette asks worriedly.
"I SAID GO AWAY?", says Chloé.
"Please tell me what's wrong", Marinette asks desperately, this was unusual behavior for her friend.
Suddenly the door slammed open and on the other side was an enraged little blonde. "What part of "go away" did you not understand huh? Or is the silly little baker girl not smart enough to follow simple instructions", Chloé said with venom in her voice.
"What?", asked a shocked and honestly a little scared Marinette.
"What? What? Are you not capable of understanding what I'm saying", Chloé said, "then let me make it easier. I'm the exceptional daughter of the Mayor of Paris and the Style Queen while you're just a baker's daughter. I belong on top while you belong at the very bottom. The only reason I pretended to be friends with you is because I had pity on you but your whining, needy behavior has made me sick of you so leave before I call security."
Marinette is shocked and on the verge of tears and asks, "What did I do wrong?"
"You're still not listening, I said get out Dupain-Cheng, I want nothing to do with you." Chloé says before slamming the door in her face.
Hurt, Marinette bursts into tears and runs to the lobby where her mom is waiting for her.
"Marinette, sweetie what's wrong?", Sabine asks concerned when she sees her daughter's condition.
"Can we just go home?",asks a crying Marinette.
"Of course sweetheart.", Sabine says as they leave the site of Marinette's biggest heartbreak for a long time.
Years go by and almost every interaction with Chloé is negative in some way from snide comments to mockery to pranks. She never gets physical, probably cause it would ruin her outfit or manicure or something but she seems to have made it her mission to make Marinette's life miserable. Fearing it was something about her that made her closet friend turn against her, Marinette struggles to make friends, concerned that it will end up being a repeat of Chloé and that's how it goes for a good while. Chloé and her new friend Sabrina being mean to her, not really talking to anyone else and just trying to get through it all.
