Let’s give this a bit of background:
At this point, Marinette’s already moved on. She has new friends who have replaced the old superheroes. They are all but ready to take down Hawkmoth for good. She’s MDC. The world is looking up for her. She’s even moved on from Adrien and has a new boyfriend.
Marinette’s so done with the drama of her class and phony friends.
The class has ostracized and exiled her. They called her mean names and bullied her. Classic Class salt.
An Akuma strikes, the entirety of Paris finds themselves locked in whatever room their in, forced to watch: The Miraculous life and times of Ladybug
Marinette is at Lunch when it hits, sitting with her new friends in the cafeteria. All the students are there.
Marinette knows what’s coming as soon as the opening credits roll. She also knows that she is no longer the girl she was when she first became Ladybug.
She was harder, stronger, colder… Unforgiving.
She had washed her hands of her former class and nothing could convince her to take them back.
Lila had threatened to take away all her friends. She could have them.
But before the end of even the first “episode”, they’d all regret choosing that Liar over her.
Marinette wished Fu would hurry. He had texted that the kwamii had protected if from being locked in place and was after the akuma.
But it would take a minuet. It was some couch potato who had his show spoiled and now was trying to spoil the biggest secret in Paris.
The show started off with Adrien’s birthday. Marinette shook her head remembering just how strong her crush USED to be.
At least she knew better now.
Adrien wasn’t the guy she thought he was. At all.
It was disappointing but it let her finally let go of whatever dream she had of them being together. She barely considered him a friend anymore.
He sat by while Lila turned the class against her. He didn’t say a word when she lost all her friends. Or when she was accused of being a bully. Adrien remained silent when Bustier announced Marinette wasn’t allowed on any of the class trips anymore. (Marinette had gotten her revenge when she full out stopped fund raising. And the class never managed to raise the money by themselves.) When the class voted to replace Marinette as class president. (Again Marinette was able to smile as she got to list all the things she didn’t need to do anymore since she wasn’t class president; no more party planning, bringing in sweets for Birthdays, no more decorating anything, etc. The list went and on, and Marinette had watched with a smirk on her face as the smug looks on her ex-friends faces slowly fall off)
But it was all worth it. Once she realized Adrien wasn’t the guy for her; she finally opened up her eyes to better options.
And then… She met Felix Culpa, Adrien’s cousin. He was the optimum of an Ice King, and he was so salt, Marinette felt the need to check her blood pressure every time they hung out. And it turned out Marinette liked about him. That he didn’t care what anyone thought about him; he said what he thought.
Flashback:
Marinette tell Felix that she didn’t want to get back at her class. “Strength is forgiving someone who was never really sorry.”
“Okay, not to be over dramatic,” Felix said “but I would literally rather die.”
