Evelyn woke up in the hospital bed that same night, her eyes a bit foggy at first but as they adjusted, she saw Harry's hand holding hers as his eyes were closed
She remembers what happened and she was dreading Harry getting suspicious of her abilities.
"Eve?" Harry asked as he felt her hand moving in his. "Oh thank Merlin. Are you okay?"
She nodded still unsure how to continue this conversation. "I was so worried. I didn't know what to do-"
"Eve?!" Another voice said. "She's awake??"
It was Steph and she was relieved to see her best friend entering the room. "How come you didn't tell me she was awake Potter?!"
"Sorry! She just woke up!" Harry said in defense.
"Do you remember what happened?" Harry asked. Now realizing that she hasn't said anything.
"Um yeah... I-I do." Her throat felt very dry and they noticed, so Steph passed her some water without questioning it first.
"I'm gonna kill that Umbitch-" Steph said with a very threatening voice.
"Don't- it won't help."
"Well at least let us talk to Dumbledore-"
"That won't work either." Harry said, "I called your parents to let them know what happened."
He said that as if he knew something he shouldn't know. "Steph can we please have a minute?" He didn't look angry, but he did looked disappointed which was worse.
Steph looked between the two of them, wondering what was going on, but she knew that whatever they were going to talk about, Eve would tell her later.
She nodded and left them have their space.
"You know... at first I thought that your parents were making this up, because they were saying it as if I already knew what they were saying in the letter. But then I connected everything." He said. He didn't separate his hand from hers and kept it tight, trying to let her know that he was not angry. She just listened, feeling ashamed of herself for keeping that secret, thinking that it would work. "I now understand why you didn't want to take our snogging further... into the next step. And although I should be angry or surprised, I'm not."
"I-I'm sorry Harry-"
"Wait, I'm not done." She sucked in her breathe, never has he ever spoke to her that sternly and she hated it. Or did she find it sexy? She wasn't sure. "At first I thought I was doing something wrong, even a few days back I asked Ron and he said that maybe you were not attracted to me anymore in that way, but I knew it wasn't right. That there must be another reason. And after reading that letter I just knew it was about the bond and how we have not finished it and that the only way to finish it is by having sex. And then I understood that the consequences of that is that if you die- I would die too, and you don't want to take any chances."
"Harry-"
"No. You don't get to die. If that day does come, I'm willing to die with you. I won't be able to survive without you Eve. And you can't stop me now." He looked so determined, so desperate. But this is what she feared the most because now, now she had to let him go.
That's what people do when they love each other, right? They let them go.
They only went on one date, had plenty of snogging, hiding, intimate moments, conversations... they had it all. But she had to let that go. It's for the best. For him.
"What? You're not gonna say anything after all that?" Harry asked, looking for answers in her eyes. She looked at their hands intertwined, and wished she could keep them together.
"Harry... I-I can't do this anymore." She finally said as she looked into his eyes.
"What? Eve-Eve what are you saying?" His eyes started to water and it was obvious he was trying to hide it.
"I can't keep doing this any further. I need to make sure you're safe, and if that means letting you go, I'm gonna do just that."
"You're making no sense Evelyn. Why would I ever want that?"
"I know you don't want it but it needs to be done Harry- I can't let anything happen to you if you're our only hope in defeating you-know-who."
"I don't care about him! What does he have to do with any of this?! We would be unstoppable-"
"Harry, if you feel the pain I feel- I'm afraid it would make you weaker. I can't let that happen. You need to be strong, stronger than him. If my pain interferes with you, I can't even stand the chance of you getting more hurt when you have to confront him."
Harry thought it through. He tried to see her point and although he did get it, he couldn't agree.
"You make me strong Eve." He said, as he finally let a tear fall. Even Eve was trying her best not to burst into tears. She was doing it for the greater good. "My parents decided to bond us because they knew you would make me strong. Together we're stronger. If we work together we can face Lord Voldemort and whatever he throws at us."
"Your parents bonded us because they thought it was for the best. But they didn't know the whole thing that came with it. They didn't know they would actually put you in danger by bonding us. Even my parents didn't know the whole thing!" She said, now letting the tears fall too. "Please-please don't make this harder and just go..."
Harry surprisingly shook his head, wiped his own tears away and sat on her bed now, placing his two hands on either side of her face. "I'm not letting you go. I don't care about anything else. I'm positive that if we stay together, we'll be unstoppable."
He wiped her tears away as well and looked down at her lips. He won't let her do this, it's obvious she doesn't want to do this either, so she'll have to defeat.
Closing the space between them, Harry kissed her and she didn't stop him. She was tired and maybe, just maybe, he could be right. Maybe she was just paranoid. What they had was good, it just felt wrong to let that go.
She kissed him back, with so much passion and love. She knew then, this was the right choice.
In between the kiss, she managed to say it. "I love you Harry."
Harry stopped for a moment, a bit surprised but he laughed, a big smile on his face as he kissed her some more. "I love you too, Eve."

A/N: ugh I hate this chapter but it needed to be done. Next one is smut so if you prefer to skip it you can. They'll finish the bond so Eve can be as strong as Harry and all that.
