Chapter 40: Davonte Dies

-WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 15TH, 2023.-
So it was 5 PM, and after I ate dinner at home post-school today with Risk, I went outside and it was snowy and miserable as usual, temperatures barely being in the double digits, as things were very cold and as I got outside Davonte just told me to meet him at his home, since most places were closed (except for school as usual) due to the cold temperatures and snow and it's not like there was much to do on a day like this anyways, as he texted me his address, and I replied to the text saying I'll be there right away, as I then put my phone in my pocket and started heading over to D's home. Once I arrived, of course, only 10 minutes later, I got let into his small, niche little 1-story home, and he told me he only lived with his grandma who wasn't feeling well and currently sleeping in her bedroom right now which is why he provides for her by working. I thought that was sweet in all honesty, and we didn't have too much problems until he asked me to sit on the couch with him the moment after he told me that. As we went over to the dark dimly lit living room to talk on the couch with the TV off and the living room light being the only light on in Davonte's home as it was now 5:30 and the sky outside began to turn orange as sunset time was nearing, he then took a sip of some room temperature water from a large white cup that he filled up from a sink  and after gulping it down and exhaling, he then leaned back and sighed, as I did too and he gulped once more, looking at me as I looked back at him, and he called my name.

Jack- "What is it man?"

Davonte- "I know what you did."

Jack- "What do you mean bro?"

Davonte- "You were one of the only people on the streets of your hood walkin' back from the blizzard on that day, same day Berdly disappeared and I know for a fact you had those double switch knives in your pocket and sh-"

Jack- "Okay okay, listen buddy....."

I of course then stood up and continued to talk to Davonte after this while looking at him looking up at me from the couch in the room, his sick grandma still tucked tight in bed asleep.

Jack- "Where did you get this info from?"

Davonte- "Man I saw you, don't play like that! I went to take out the garbage during the storm and saw you AGH-"

After that, I quickly grabbed Davonte's back, and took out my right switchblade knife I stole from my sister as usual, having it with me in case an event like this happened, and kicked Davonte's right foot as he bled out in pain and was knocked to the ground. After that, once I took the knife out of him as soon as he fell, himself bleeding a lot, I pocketed the knife quickly and then curbstomped him hard since I still had my boots on, killing him. I couldn't let anybody know aside from Dave or anyone else close what I did to Berdly, or those 2 other people in the Dark World, I quickly found a garbage bag big enough to fit D's body in there, so I curled him up and put him in it, tying it up nice and neat as he weighed enough for it to break, so I had to be careful as next to the bag, I got the cleaning tools and paper towels I needed to wipe the blood off the couch and tables and dry everything up and put the paper towels back on the dinner table once I was done and dried all the wet spots the best I can with all of the blood, including on my clothes to make it look like nothing happened. Even though it was still a bit "red" on the stuff I was wearing, it was better than nothing. I quickly rushed outside of the house at around 6 PM, shutting the door of course including its screen to make it look non-suspicious, as I cradled the garbage bag so it didn't break, so at least it would just look like I was carrying around a heavy load of garbage rather than a man's dead body to any near bystanders. As soon as I got the chance, I dumped the body in the river, thankfully no one was around, and let it flow the farthest it possibly could, all evidence was cleared, and I did the best I could to cover everything up, so even if the police found Davonte's body it would be near impossible to trace the culprit back to me, since his body would most likely end up far away from Hometown and I made sure to take the weapons with me as usual and ALWAYS wear gloves so the cops couldn't find any fingerprints. Best of all I was able to silence Davonte before he could make any noise. He was a good friend, but he was onto my secret and I couldn't let myself go to jail at a young age like that just because he was on my back like this. After that, instead of just leaving the now empty garbage back on the ground, I took it with me, went home as the sun fully set at 7, and once I got in, Risk was asleep on the couch as usual with static on the TV and the living room light being the only one on like im Davonte's home, and I stepped into the dark kitchen, tossing away the empty garbage back into OUR garbage so it would just look regular, and I went to bed. John was allowed to live with us and he still was, but I haven't seen him in a few days ever since he told me after school that he had to deal with "personal matters" after school and ran off before I could ask any questions only the DAY after he first moved in with us, I wondered where he was, but that didn't matter, and at 8 PM after brushing my teeth and getting ready for bed, taking off my beanie I was wearing in the snow leaving my door just a crack open to my bedroom as I laid back on my bed, putting my beanie on my nightstand and having only my socks on as my boots were on the floor and I was balling myself up from the frigid weather outside as the TV static contiunued to blare loudly and illuminated the dark living room that I had just turned the lights off too before hopping in bed, I then went to sleep, hoping everything would be better tomorrow as usual.
