Chapter 27: Meeting John

-THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 2ND, 2023.-

After school on Thursday, Dave and I started heading towards the cliffs as usual. We hadn't been to the Dark World in a few days, but something seemed... off. Dave was wearing an emerald necklace that I didn't recognize. It seemed to glow faintly at times, and his eyes had a strange glint to them. He was acting differently too - more aggressive, more demanding than usual. We made our way through the Dark World, passing by Ralsei's castle and heading towards FOHAD. Along the way, we encountered a blonde kid named John, who looked about 19 years old. We stopped by the bake shop and bought some donuts, sitting down at a table as John sipped his coffee.He began talking about how he was separated from his brother and had nowhere to live. I felt bad for the guy and made an impulsive offer. "You can come live with me, if you want."

John- "Really? You'd let me stay with you?"

Jack- "Yeah, sure. I'm sure my friend who owns the place named Risk won't have a problem with it."

But before we could say anything more, Dave stood up suddenly, knocking over his chair. He turned and sprinted away without a word.John and I exchanged puzzled looks. 

Jack- "What on earth was that about?" I said, completely baffled. 

Then, after that, we said goodbye to FOHAD and left the Dark World, bewildered by Dave's strange behavior. As we emerged, the cold night air hit us as it was 9 PM and it was dark and freezing outside, with temperatures at 19 degrees Fahrenheit.Dave was sitting on the curb with a cut on his right cheek, he must've tripped while running from us, and he was looking sad. His necklace had broken, and the emerald was now cracked, its powers seemingly gone. John and I walked past him, not sure what to say. Most of the snow had melted but it was still cold, at least temps were getting a bit better for the beginning of February, though.
