Chapter 164: My Protector

-WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 4TH, 2023-
As I slowly rouse from a deep sleep, I'm greeted by the sight of Virtuous, his face illuminated by the soft glow of a single lamp on my bedside table. He's sitting on the edge of my bed, a gentle smile on his face.

Virtuous- "GOOD MORNING......" he whispers, his voice soft and soothing. "HOW ARE YOU FEELING.........?"

Virt watches as I struggle to speak, his expression full of worry and concern. My words are mumbled and hard to make out due to my exhaustion, but he understands.

Virtuous- "WOULD YOU LIKE ME TO CALL IN AN EXCUSE TO SCHOOL SO YOU CAN REST TODAY.....?" Virtuous asks, his voice gentle as possible despite still speaking in the whacky all CAPS format.

I manage to nod weakly, responding with a soft "mhm..." as I yawn, my eyes barely open.

Virtuous looks towards the bedroom door, contemplating leaving to call the school. However, he turns back to me, his expression tender. He places his right hand on my stomach as he kneels beside my bed.

Virtuous- "YOU KNOW, MY LIFE WASN'T ALWAYS EASY, BUT MEETING YOU CHANGED EVERYTHING. YOU'RE THE REASON I'M HERE, EVEN IF JOHN CONVINCED ME TO COME IN THE FIRST PLACE..... I- I'LL STAY FOR YOU!! AND...... I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT I'LL ALWAYS BE BY YOUR SIDE. I'VE BEEN AROUND FOR 200 YEARS ALREADY, BUT I'LL STAY FOR ANOTHER 200 IF THAT'S WHAT IT TAKES, YOU'RE WORTH IT. I'LL PROTECT YOU, NO MATTER WHAT. YOU'RE MORE IMPORTANT TO ME THAN ANYTHING IN THIS WORLD, AND I'LL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO KEEP YOU SAFE."

Then, Virtuous ran his hand softly across my head, his touch gentle and loving. I turn to face him on the pillow, still feeling exhausted from the previous day's events.
He looks at me with concern, his voice soft.

Virtuous- "PLEASE GET SOME MORE REST," he says. "I WANT YOU TO FULLY RECOVER."

He leans down and gently pecks my left cheek before casting a gentle sleeping spell to help me rest. I fell asleep instantly, while Virtuous quickly turned off the lamp in my room, making it dark and cozy again as he went outside to call the school about my "sickness" and shut my room door as he did. He was my protector.... truly a real bodyguard.
