Chapter 24: 'missing'

-MONDAY, JANUARY 30TH, 2024.-
It was Monday, just another day at school as usual. Of course it didn't take long for the police to file a missing persons report about Berdly, and 2 flyers, one on a tree oak at the bench near school and the other outside the town hall of Hometown North, the HUMAN side of Hometown, since of course "America's ONLY Monster Town" couldn't exist by itself, right? I still find it crazy how Hometown was abandoned for almost 24 years after 1989 until being repopulated again the day after the "underground" was abolished and monsters were granted U.S citizenship again after the "cleansing" that happened all those years ago. It was their genocide, and although it was only in the U.S it affected the monster community a lot, most had to escape America because of that one attack the teenager did in this one midwestern mall back then which caused this to happen. It's dark but obviously Hometown was founded before that. Eitherway, back to Berdly:
So although I don't REGRET killing him unlike the other two, he was a bad person who tried to take Noelle away from me, I realized that I might get caught by the police for it, but then realized it was actually easy for me to evade, all I had to do was stay silent and act normal. Berdly was a monster, so when he died, all he left was dust and blood, no body, so that could easily be washed away in the blizzard yesterday, but his clothes though.... they were buried under the snow where I killed him and could possibly used for evidence. I wore gloves when I killed him, which was a smart move, and I took the switchblades with me, because I'm not dumb enough to leave the weapons behind like that, but what if they traced my footprints????? I don't know, but when I woke up this morning it was 14 degrees and snowy, but not as bad as it was yesterday. It was light snow and visible outside compared to the absolute BLIZZARD we had yesterday where we got snow up to 3 inches. Thankfully the snow plowers were quick to clear out the roads by noon, but of course us kids went to school early morning, covered in snow. Why didn't they cancel school for a snow day you may ask? Well, it's Colorado of course, so these winter temperatures and weather are nothing new, if we were more south though it would be different, I was waiting for winter to end at this point. Anyways, we went to school, and I was surprised the police weren't looking for me, got off school, and still nothing, and I was wondering how long my immunity would last at this point. I didn't go to the Dark World today because I didn't feel like it, and neither did Noelle since her and the whole town due to how small it was already heard that Berdly has been reported missing, because of me of course, but I wasn't gonna say that, I'm too young to spend the rest of my life behind bars, and I'd be facing 3 murder counts on me by now if it weren't for the first 2 people I killed being in the dark world and not the light world. I was becoming a killer, but still managed to act normal. Then, as we got off of school and I opened up the doors, the temperature only dropping a degree as we got off at 3:20 PM like usual and the weather still remaining the same but the snowflakes dying off, as it was just a mostly snowy mess in the school's driveway but not everywhere else since the snowplowers thankfully cleared it all off the road, whereas the park which was covered in snow was closed off since the police were searching for Berdly due to him being last seen there. As I walked home with Noelle since we both decided not to go "Dark World adventuring" today and Risk who went to school with me since he was still completing his final year walked in the opposite direction of me for some reason going through the trees to get uphill to our home, as by the time I stopped at the street my apartment was on and I saw Risk walk in and shut the door, I then looked back at Noelle at the stop sign, and she started talking to me about Berdly's "strange" disappearance.

Noelle- "Jack? You know Berdly went missing right? That's why the police are searching the park and it's closed off. The blizzard was very bad yesterday and he still texted his mom that he was going hiking before going to the park. They haven't found any evidence he's dead or anything, but.... I don't know, something about it feels..... off. Why did Berdly go on a hike in such bad weather conditions? Police are saying the blizzard got him, do you think so?"

thankfully, I was safe, the police thought Berdly had gone "missing" because of the weather yesterday and didn't know I went on a hike with him, that was good, and of course, as I was trailing off thinking this, Noelle snapped me back to reality.

Noelle- "Jack?!?! Are you listening?????"

Jack- "Uh-! Sorry yeah, hehe, maybe iy was. It's uh.... horrible he's gone missing though." I said, pretending to feel bad and care in order to make myself not look guilty, and then, I delivered a more convincing approach. "You know, I actually was in the house all day yesterday due to the bad weather. Playing Rocket League haha. I actually don't play games that much aside from those two on my PC because I have no console in my house except for my PS2 but eh- yeah haha. I hope things get better for you though Noelle, you're not alone in this."

As then after that, I held Noelle's hand, and she blushed as did I, and I reassured her that I was there with her, as long as it made me look less guilty, of course.
