Chapter 35: Monster Kid

-FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 10TH, 2023.-

So you know, school came and went as usual, and the temperatures dipped up back in the 30s again, with most of the snow melting over night with SOME of the sun coming back but it still being mostly cloudy, because you know.... winter, and although there was STILL some snow, at least it was a bit warmer, and uh..... basically, I walked home from school, but you know, my neighbor to the right of me, and no, not to the left of me where the Detective lived, but my LEFT next door neighbor Monster Kid, who was literally the same age as me and has grown a lot overtime, now being 17 and the first person to greet me despite my "human-ness" coming to Hometown when I first arrived ironically enough, also the nicest to me as well and only an inch shorter than me, came next to my home and as I was about to open the door, putting my hand on the handle, Monster Kid called out to me saying hi, as I sighed looking next to him just wanting to go inside from this cold and depressing weather as I then started talking to him, looking at him distressed and annoyed because I did not have the energy for this at 4 PM on a Friday right now.

Jack- "What is it MK?"

Monster Kid- "Oh nothing, did you hear about Berdly's disappearance 11 days ago? Crazy huh, I know you and him were more acquaintances than friends, but eh, I'd assume your kind of depressed about it already, but did you know that a friend of mine actually THOUGHT he was in Cuba while visiting?"

I was confused what he was on about at this point.

Jack- "Huh????"

Monster Kid- "Yeah, he's from HT North but he's on vacation in Cuba right now because his dad is visiting an old college friend who lives in Havana right now, there was a blue bird looking figure that my guy THOUGHT was him, but it turned out to just be some rando all I got was a picture of the person in a hood with swim trunks on at the beach ironically enough, crazy how these things could happen, anyway I-"

But of course, I had no time for Monster Kid's rambling, so I quickly got in the house, took off my boots and hat, lowering my hood, and as Monster Kid stopped rambling, saying "Hey Jack wait!" to get my attention, I quickly shut the door, locking it. Again, didn't have time for this right now, Risk cooked up porkchops with black beans and rice and got two 2-liter cans of Mountain Dew so we could actually have a proper dinner for once. It was payday for R and I was glad, and also, I did not want to here MK's yapping, and I didn't take off my socks as I quickly went to the kitchen, too hungry to do so.
