When Holden had asked me to be his girlfriend I was at complete loss for words

When Holden had asked me to be his girlfriend I was at complete loss for words. I wanted to laugh, cry, and shout all at once, but most importantly I wanted to ask if he was joking with me or not. From a semi-argument about how 'he wasn't good for me' had turned into a whole proposal at the end. Not an actual proposal, but a boyfriend-girlfriend proposal.

I didn't know exactly what had sparked in him to ask me the question but I was definitely caught off guard by it. Especially by the words he had used. Do you want to be mine?  Like who in the world wouldn't be lost for words for those words? It could've been do you want to be my girlfriend? or do you want to go out with me? but no he didn't.

I wasn't sure how this was going to be considering I never in my life had had a boyfriend. It was all going to be fresh and brand new to me. As for Holden I wasn't sure if he ever dated before. I still hadn't got the chance to ask but now I was eager to ask. If he did end up saying that he had dated before then that would make me all the more nervous but if he hadn't then at least then, I wouldn't feel alone and not so antsy.

It still hadn't fully hit me that he had asked me to be his girlfriend. Just the reminder of it every once in a while during the day made my stomach fill with butterflies. Now the problem was: how was I going to break the news to my parents? We had just spoken about the subject not to long ago when I went for lunch with Holden in which my dad demanded to see him if we ever did end up dating.

The thought of it made me bite my nails and pace around the room anxiously.

"I need moral support." I told myself, reaching for my phone to face time Emily and Braylee and right after the third ring they answered. "I need some advice on telling my parents that me and Holden are dating. Like now, before they get home." I didn't let them greet me before I started talking.

"Ok, firstly calm down. There's no need to panic." Emily spoke first with wide eyes, shooting her hands forward in a stopping motion.

"First ease into the conversation, asking about how their day went, then bring up the topic, and tell them." Braylee talked as I remained quiet, letting them talk.

It was easier said than done, I thought.

"You make it sound so easy." I placed a hand on my forehead.

"I regret not remaining calm when I told my mom I started dating Liam because she went into panic mode too, and that just didn't end well." A very visible crease on Emily's head appeared at the mention of it.

"Especially cause she was a literal kid." Braylee added on, making Emily roll her eyes in annoyance.

"Anyways, go at the situation calm and collected, there's no need to be afraid. Your parents love you so much, and there is no way they would forbid you from seeing him or anything. Pray on it then tell them. Trust me." I took a deep breath at Emily's words and I felt my shoulders visibly relax at the comfort of her words. She was right. There was no need to go hysterical on this. It wasn't the end of the world.
