I was so not looking forward for today.
Who even invented birthdays? Surely, God didn't. I don't think he did. No matter who created them, I still wouldn't like them. Ok...maybe only if it was created by God, then maybe! But besides that subject, today already started off on the wrong foot. My mom and dad woke me up by singing me a 'happy birthday' song, and my mom surprised me with my favorite pastry from the bakery down the street. I think that was my favorite part of my day so far. Waking up to a birthday carol wasn't the bad thing; it was the fact that God wanted me to act civil at least for this birthday. I felt him nudging me and telling me last night before I went to sleep, and now I felt like a scolded child that needed to listen.
I couldn't be disobedient with him so I had no choice but to listen and follow his instruction.
I backtracked to twelve in the morning when Holden called me just to be the first one to tell me 'happy birthday'. Now that I think more of it, that was probably a hundred percent the best thing of today. Although he did look a little half-asleep with his messy hair all over the place, not to mention shirtless, I almost had to throw my phone across the room. I was completely caught off guard, so I ordered him to place a shirt on, which he did after giving me multiple annoyed groans. Aside from that, it did mean a lot to me that he took the time out of his sleep to call me and wish me a good birthday. It was just who he was.
"Thanks you guys." I pouted my lips at Braylee, Liam, and Emily as they finished singing to me through facetime. No matter how much they knew I hated the attention, they still made their greatest efforts to give me it. It was annoyingly sweet I guess.
When I got off the phone with them and finished the nice fluffy cinnamon rolls out of scratch my mom woke up so early to do I gave my parents both a hard kiss on the cheek and thanked them a million times before leaving out the door.
In attempts to make an effort on my birthday, I wore one of my favorite long dresses that I only wear for church, which is a huge deal. For me at least.
"Woah, who is this pretty lady?" Holden walked up the driveway with a huge grin on his face. "Happy birthday, love." He grabbed my face in his hands and gave me a kiss in the forehead then another to my lips. This was the twentieth time I received a 'happy birthday' today. I was keeping count. "Does you being eighteen now mean I could finally steal you away from home?" He teased as he opened the passenger door for me.
I gasped. "Holden!" I smacked his shoulder. There was just no way he just said that right now.
"Kidding." He closed the door to the truck and I laughed silently as he went the other side and got back in the driving seat. "But you are eighteen so..."
"Ok, so what if you did? We would be right across the street from my parents. It doesn't make sense." I was incredibly amused at the thought. It was the truth. It would be no use of him 'stealing me from home' when he was just across the street from me. It was hilarious actually.
