"I seriously don't understand why math problems have letters

"I seriously don't understand why math problems have letters. Like math is not about letters it's about numbers. It's like adding a math problem onto a literary paper. Does that make sense? No. Of course, not," Braylee complained as she waved the paper around and slammed it onto the table. There was something seriously wrong with her relationship with tables. Everywhere we were she slammed them around.

"Trust me I don't understand it either," I said, taking a bite of my strawberry. I might know a little more about math but I didn't understand the concept of letters on math problems.

I glanced around the cafeteria, looking for any sign of Liam or Holden anywhere, but couldn't see either of them anywhere. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. Usually I would see Holden when I was stepping out of class, but today he wasn't there waiting. We were already fifteen minutes into lunch, and they still hadn't arrived. I assumed they were together since both of their presences weren't here.

"Did Liam let you know where he was?" I asked Emily.

Her red-haired ponytail swung as she shook her head. "Nope."

"There they are." Braylee pointed over at the entrance of the lunch room. When I looked over I noticed Holden's tall figure along with Liam who was chatting with his other friends. It suddenly made sense why they were gone a little longer.

Holden's eyes immediately analyzed the surrounding tables in the cafeteria when they entered. My heart warmed at the realization that he was looking for me. In a matter of a second, he found my gaze and slowly he started making his way over to me, Liam following in tow.

"Obsessed, are we?" Emily raised a brow in suggestion at me.

"Em, please." I shifted my attention to her only to see she was smiling as if she said the most funny thing in the world.

"Hey, babe," Liam said when he arrived at our table. He took a seat right beside her and gave her a smooch on the cheek, in which she pushed his lips away afterward as she blushed super hard. Immediately, feeling bad she sighed and returned his kiss when he pouted at her refusal.

"Now who is talking?" I asked, raising my eyebrows back at her like she had done before.

She rolled her eyes and smiled as Liam continued giving her small kisses all over her face and Braylee fake gagged in the background.

I turned my eyes away from their display of affection and turned my attention to my green-eyed boyfriend who came to sit beside me. "Oakley." He pulled me for a hug, wrapping an arm around my shoulders and I gladly settled myself on top of his chest. I didn't want Braylee to feel she was fifth-wheeling so I only gave him a brief hug and then settled back in my seat properly again. I didn't want to be that friend to make her feel excluded.

"Your not gonna eat?" I asked Holden as I noticed he hadn't brought any food with him.

"No," he answered blankly, taking the last strawberry from my plate. Taking a bite of it, he laid out the remaining of it out to me and I gave him an playful annoyed look before taking the rest of it into my mouth.
