December 7th

You lay sprawled on your couch, the TV droning in the background. The remnants of your broken heart made it hard to muster any enthusiasm for anything, much less a party. The past few weeks had been a blur of work and trying to keep yourself together, avoiding thoughts of Jenna and the betrayal that still stung.

"Come on, Y/N Y/L/N," Ana's voice cut through your fog of apathy as she stood in front of you, hands on her hips. "You can't spend every weekend like this. We're going to San Diego, and you're coming with us."

You groaned, pulling a pillow over your face. "I really don't feel like it, Ana. It's just a nightclub."

"Exactly," she countered, snatching the pillow away. "It's just a nightclub. A chance to get out, have some fun, and maybe forget about... things for a while."

You sighed, sitting up and rubbing your eyes. "I don't know..."

"Look, I know you're hurting," Ana said, her tone softening. "But staying cooped up here isn't going to help. A change of scenery, some good music, and a few drinks might be exactly what you need. Besides, we're all going, and it won't be the same without you."

You looked at her, seeing the genuine concern in her eyes. Ana had been a rock for you these past few weeks, always checking in and trying to lift your spirits. Maybe she was right. Maybe a night out would do you some good.

"Fine," you relented, standing up. "I'll go. But if it sucks, I'm blaming you."

Ana grinned, clapping her hands. "Deal. Now, get dressed. We're leaving in an hour."

The San Diego night was alive with music and laughter as you arrived at the party with your group of friends. The air was cool, a welcome change from the sweltering heat you had endured in Paris a couple of months back. Ana walked beside you, chatting animatedly about her latest work project, but your mind was elsewhere.

You scanned the crowd, taking in the vibrant atmosphere. Your heart froze when you spotted no other than Jenna across the room, her sister Mia by her side. She looked effortlessly stunning in a sheer black top paired with a sleek leather jacket, her hair framing her face perfectly. She was smiling and laughing, and dancing with her sister and a group of friends.

"You have got to be fucking kidding me." You mumbled under your breath, and turned to Ana, trying to get out of sight from your former best friend.

"Did you know she was going to be here?" You asked angrily.

Ana looked genuinely confused. "What? Who?"

"Jenna's here with her sister," you said, discreetly pointing in their direction.

"Oh fuck. What were the odds? I swear I didn't know," Ana said, looking regretful.

You decided to stay out of sight from Jenna and Mia, focusing on making the most of your night with your friends. You moved to a more secluded area of the club, where the music was loud and the crowd was dense.

You lost yourself in the rhythm of the music and the flow of drinks. Dancing with your friends, you started to feel a bit of the old excitement return. The alcohol helped you let go of the hurt, if only for a while.

As you danced, you noticed Hailee, the beautiful girl from work that had recently started, in a red dress standing near the bar. The way she moved to the music reminded you a little of Jenna, but it was a gentle nudge, not a harsh reminder.

"Hi there," you said, catching her eye. "Fancy seeing you here."

She turned to you, her eyes sparkling. "Hey! Oh, hi, Miss Y/L/N."
