February 10th
It had been a couple of weeks since that almost kiss. The memory lingered in your mind, stirring a mix of excitement and awkwardness whenever you thought about it. Neither of you had brought it up, and maybe that was for the best. You and Jenna had been texting almost every day since, a steady stream of conversation that felt reassuring.
Jenna had been absorbed in work, busy with readings and upcoming shootings. You, on the other hand, had thrown yourself into the office, trying to stay focused but occasionally finding your thoughts drifting back to her.
It was a quiet Saturday afternoon, and you were lying on the couch, half-watching a silly comedy movie when your phone vibrated, catching your attention. You didn't even need to check the screen—you knew it was Jenna just by the vibration pattern. Yes, you had created a custom vibration pattern just for her.
Grinning, you reached for your phone, and sure enough, the beautiful brunette's name lit up the screen. The message was brief but bold.
Jenna: I'm heading over to your place later. Hope you don't mind some company tonight 😏
Your heart skipped a beat. Jenna inviting herself over wasn't unusual, but considering the unspoken tension between you two lately, it felt different this time. Still, you couldn't help but smile at her confidence. It felt like old times—easy, natural—but with that underlying tension neither of you had acknowledged.
To say the rest of the day dragged by, was an understatement.

When the doorbell rang, your heart skipped a beat. You knew who it was. Taking a deep breath, you walked to the door, trying to calm the sudden rush of nerves that hit you. You opened it, and there she was—Jenna, standing in the doorway with that familiar, effortless smile.
She looked casual yet stunning in her way. Her brown eyes lit up when she saw you, but she played it cool, like she hadn't been thinking about the almost kiss as much as you had. Maybe she hadn't—or maybe she was just better at hiding it.
"Hey," she said, her voice light and breezy. Before you could reply, she stepped forward and wrapped her arms around your waist in a hug. It was meant to be casual, but you noticed the way her arms lingered, squeezing you a bit tighter than usual. You hesitated for a second, then returned the hug, feeling the warmth of her body against yours. It was familiar, comforting and it stirred something inside you.
As you pulled back, Jenna grinned, her tone still easygoing. "It's good to see you," she said, her eyes flicking over your face as if checking for any sign of how you were feeling. "Missed hanging out."
You managed a smile, though you could feel your awkwardness simmering just beneath the surface. "Yeah, same here. Things have been...busy."
She nodded, rolling her eyes with a dramatic flair. "Tell me about it. It's been non-stop."
She breezed past you into the apartment as if she had been here a thousand times before—which, of course, she had. You closed the door behind her, trying to push down the nervous energy that seemed to hum in the air.
You led the petite brunette into the living room, gesturing for her to take a seat on the couch. "Do you want something to drink?" you offered, hoping to ease your nerves. A little bit of alcohol might help take the edge off—it was Saturday, after all.
"Yeah, that sounds nice," she replied with a nod, settling back into the cushions. "Whatever you're having is fine."
Grateful for the excuse to step away for a moment, you headed to the kitchen and grabbed two beers from the fridge.
