She kicked at the forest floor with a heavy sigh, her arms wrapping around her knees as she attempted to keep herself from falling apart like she wanted. She felt alone, like she was without anyone else in the world, and so the tears flowed freely down her scarred cheeks, as she knew there was nothing to do to fix what had already been broken. She knew she wasn't really alone. Lexie had Tyreese, Carol and Judith and she was more than glad to know the baby was okay, but she wanted to hold Carl's hold and know he was as alive as she was. The world didn't seem right without him.

Never in a million years did she expect to grow attached to the people of the prison, especially not Carl Grimes, but gradually he became her best friend, the person she loved the most. Her father was Caesar Martinez, the second in command to the Governor of Woodbury, so when he abandoned her when he fled with Philip Blake, she didn't expect for those in the prison to give her sanctuary. But they did. They didn't look at her like she was a monster and treated her like everyone else. She had even formed friendships with Daryl Dixon and Maggie Greene as they taught her how to survive, but her biggest friendship came with Carl. That friendship blossomed into something else, even if Lexie wasn't sure what it was. She just knew she loved him and now she had lost him.

There had been hope until Mika and Lizzie died.

Until a man came on a radio, announcing he wanted the boy in the hat dead. In her heart, Lexie knew he was talking about Carl. Her Carl. She insisted on going with Carol to save their family but the woman refused, saying the girl would get in the way and she would come back with their group or she wouldn't be coming back at all. The promise gave her hope that her boyfriend could still be breathing. But that emptiness she felt refused to leave, not until she had Carl back. She was sat on the side of tiny house, her machete on the floor beside her as she sobbed silently, trying to keep her tears at bay but so far had been terribly unsuccessful. She didn't want Tyreese or Martin, the man within the cabin, to see her cry. It was weakness. The last thing Alexis Martinez was was weak. She was strong but even the strong had their breaking points.

All of a sudden, she heard a gasp and a cry and she wiped at her cheeks furiously as she leapt to her feet, walking around the cabin with her weapon in her hand before she witnessed Rick rush forward to take Judith off Tyreese, holding her close and crying into the baby's hair. Lexie laughed tearfully, realizing that most of her favorite people had survived the fall of the prison, including Daryl, Maggie, Glenn, Sasha and Michonne.

"Lex!" Maggie was the one to notice the girl first, laughing loudly as she rushed forward. "Lexie!"

Throwing herself into Maggie's arms, Lexie cried out in happiness, watching as Maggie held her tightly, spinning her around before passing her to Daryl, who gave her a one armed hug that she knew meant he was as glad to see her as she was to him. Glenn replaced him, not afraid to wrap both his arms around her and lifting her off the ground, laughing when she hid her face in his neck. "I thought you guys were dead."

"You shoulda known better than that, kid." Daryl ruffled her hair as Glenn placed her back on her feet. "Takes more than that to take us out."

Lexie smiled at her family before she caught movement in the corner of her eye, just as Carl was pulling away from the embrace he was sharing with his father and sister, running towards her as fast as she could. Lexie opened her arms as Carl fell into them, lifting her up until her legs were around his waist, collapsing onto the ground and both laughed as everyone watched them in amusement. She clenched her eyes shut as she kissed his neck, inhaling his scent lovingly.

He pulled away first, but instantly pressed his lips against hers, in a kiss that the two shared rarely. He had been her first kiss less than four months ago, when their friendship turned into something else and she was his first kiss too. He was her first everything and she couldn't imagine loving anyone else like she loved this boy. She laughed as he moved his lips swiftly against hers. She could feel his fingers in her hair, but she kept her hands on his cheeks as she returned the kiss, his tongue moving to ask for entrance, which she couldn't resist accepting. Her tongue clashed with his and she pulled away, only for Carl to press a tender kiss to her nose.
