Ashley sat with her legs crossed, her dark blue eyes flickering between her five friends, but every few seconds, would glance at the clock above Hanna's head, unable to stop herself even when she knew she could bring unwanted attention to herself. She couldn't help it. It was almost time and she could feel the twists erupting themselves in her stomach, like knots tying around and around and around. Alison was talking, naturally, but she was the first to notice that Ashley's attention wasn't completely on her, causing an annoyed sigh to escape her lips.
"Ash," she called Ashley by the nickname she despised. "Aren't you listening?"
The brunette blinked, now that they were all staring at her. "Uh....yeah?"
"No, you weren't." Alison said with a shrug. "You're a horrible liar."
"I wasn't listening either," Spencer chuckled.
Alison ignored Spencer, raising an eyebrow at the sixth member of their group. "Who are you thinking about?"
Her cheeks went bright red. "No one."
"She's blushing!" Hanna squealed. "Who is it? Tell us!"
"Hanna, you have jam on your chin." Alison told the other blonde bluntly before turning to Ashley. "You cannot have a crush I don't know about."
Aria bit her lip. "Maybe it isn't a crush. Maybe she's dating someone."
Alison frowned, disliking that idea even more. She hated the concept of one of them having a secret that she didn't know about. "But you haven't told me you were dating someone." She said to Ashley, confusion leaking in her voice.
Spencer rolled her eyes. "She doesn't need to tell you everything, Ali."
"Do we know him?" Emily asked Ashley gently.
Ashley glanced around at her friends, suddenly feeling extremely uncomfortable. Seeing the clock hit eleven, she got up. "I gotta go guys."
"Are you meeting him?" Alison jumped up after her, her face suggesting she was angered she didn't know something Ashley was purposely hiding. "Now?"
She groaned. "There is no boy! We both know there isn't."
"I believe her." Spencer voiced. "Besides, she can have a secret to herself, Ali."
"Shut up, Spencer." Alison shot back before turning back to Ashley, who was looking torn. "I know when you're lying, Ash. Are you going out on a date?"
Sighing in relief, Ashley shook her head. "No."
This wasn't a real date after all.
Ashley knew Alison might very well follow her, and so she took three corners before doubling back. She, Alison and Spencer were neighbours. Alison and Spencer lived next door, but Ashley's family lived on Alison's other side. It was how she met her. Ashley Fletcher was the last of the little group to join, but she quickly bonded with Spencer Hastings and Aria Montgomery. Ashley loved Aria because she was old fashioned but both she and Spencer were close because Spencer had a mind of her own. She challenged Alison and was the only one with the courage to do so. Ashley kept secrets and spoke up, but she always felt that Alison could ruin her if she did something to truly anger her. It's the main reason why she agreed to be her friend to begin with.
Creeping through the backyard, the brunette yelped when she felt a hand yank her into the back of the Hastings' bushes and she felt him cover her mouth with his warm hand. Her blue irises met his, but a small smile was playing at his lips as he released her, keeping a firm hold of her waist as he did. She swallowed, her confidence crumbling as she felt the warmth between them.
