"It's a vampire,"

"It's a witch."

You rolled your eyes, folding your arms across your chest, an annoyed expression on your face. "Vampire." You stated confidently.

Dean, who wore an identical look on his face, lifted his beer to his lips. "It's a damn witch. Who knows better? Me or you?"

"I'm not a child!"

"I didn't say that! Sam, tell her that I didn't say that!"

The two of you turned to Sam at the same time, who was sitting on the bed with the laptop while you and Dean were at the table. "I'm staying out of this." He held his hands out as if in surrender.

Dean instantly groaned. "You would say that."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Sam frowned.

"You always take Y/N's side! When you know I'm right, you 'stay out of it', cos you don't wanna piss her off!"

You scoff and tossed a piece of paper at him; the only other thing you had to throw was your beer bottle and you thought that might've been pushing it. "He does not!"

Dean smirked, glancing at his now frozen brother. "He does, too."

You merely rolled your eyes again with a scowl, confident he was wrong, instead leaning back against your chest, knowing that Sam wasn't that predicable as he always seemed to love playfully bickering with you and because Dean was clearly trying to change the subject. He always did that when he was starting to doubt his words. The three of you were working a case and had rented a motel room for the job, but you knew without a doubt that it was a vampire, possibly even a rogue since there hadn't been many deaths, and not a witch like Dean thought. He was more experienced but you knew what you were doing.

You hadn't been a hunter as long as Dean and Sam had been, who were raised by their father in the hunting world, but you weren't naïve or stupid and you were sick and tired of being treated as if you hadn't paid attention to everything the boys had taught you. Eight years ago, you had been normal, having been at the top of your class at Stanford and living in the apartment across from your best friend, Jessica Moore, and her boyfriend, Sam Winchester. Having had a very normal and happy childhood, you hadn't seen anything strange about Jessica's guy, merely befriending him and viewing him as one of the best people you knew. You developed a crush on him soon after meeting him, but you never said anything, notably because you knew Jessica was Sam's whole world and because you didn't want to ruin your friendship. So for two years, your crush remained unsaid, buried deep inside alongside everything else.

Things changed when Sam left for a few days with his brother, promising to return by Monday because of an interview he wanted to get. By Monday morning, you were homeless and had watched your apartment building burn to the ground, taking Jessica with it. You hadn't known what had happened, only knowing that Sam stuck around long enough for the funeral before leaving again. You were suspicious about your best friend's death, always knowing that things weren't quite right, but you never found out the truth until several months later, when another friend of yours called with the news that her brother had been arrested for murder. Becky was always closer to Jessica and Sam than you, but you had been fairly close with Zack. In fact, he was the only person you ever told about your feelings for Sam, and you knew he always planned to propose to his girlfriend on their second anniversary as he felt that was the perfect timeframe, a year being too short of time but three years being too long. So for Zack to have killed her didn't make any sense. You stayed around for the trial and was reunited with Sam Winchester—and meeting Dean for the first time—and found out about the truth of what his life was really like. A monster, a shapeshifter, had taken Zack's form and killed his girlfriend, framing him in the process. In the end things worked out since Dean was blamed for the murders and Zack was released from prison, but most of all, you got the truth.
