She purposely waited for him to turn away before she even allowed herself to glance in his direction, her eyes drifting over every attractive feature he had, which unfortunately for her happened to be every skin cell the man was made from. She had been finding it more and more difficult to hide the fact that she liked him, that he wasn't drop dead gorgeous with bright green eyes that could see into her soul if she looked deep enough, with high cheekbones and a dark stubble and a chiseled chest. Derek Hale was undeniably beautiful and Mora Stilinski couldn't deny he had become the only guy she could find herself ever liking like that.
It's not as if they were dating. Lydia sometimes teased her when she saw Mora's eyes lingering, telling her that the two would be a very good looking couple, with Derek's perfect bad boy image and Mora's adorkable smile and straight dark brown hair, they fit together in some strange way. Many said she was a female version of her brother, but Derek once confessed he saw more differences than similarities between them. They had the same dark hair and chocolate brown eyes and they were both loyal DC and Marvel fans, but while Stiles was courageous with his words, Mora had always used her fists. At 5'1ft, she was a feisty little fighter, even when she had had no idea how to use them. She had just always been an impulsive spitfire, something that apparently made her likable. She didn't always see it, but she had believed Liam when he told her. The younger boy had proceeded to tell her that he didn't see her like that, his cheeks flaming red, which was more amusing than anything. That had been the day she started to view her best friend's beta as a second brother.
For the longest time, she had simply allowed herself to be one of the guys with her twin brother and best friend, but as she gained friends that were girls, she got more and more confident in herself as a woman and now showed it with pride. She no longer threw on a t-shirt and a pair of jeans with the insistence that no one would care anyway. She liked looking good, thinking good about herself, which is why she had asked Derek to train her over a year ago. She had wanted to be strong and at the time, wouldn't have wasted a chance to spend time with her crush. Now, it was a valued lesson every other day, treasuring not only hanging out with the man she was falling for but also actually becoming more skilled in protecting herself.
Despite their differences, Mora had picked up a few traits off him over the years, usually hanging in his shadow when it came to his numerous schemes, gaining a knack for rebelling, which began when they were toddlers and Stiles managed to plan a way out of their playpen, with his younger twin a step behind, acting as his willing accomplice. She sometimes blamed it on the absence of a mother, but having a cop for a father was bound to give the two the need to break the rules every once and a while and Mora loved seeing the 'what did I do wrong?' look on her father's face whenever he saw what his children had done. Besides Stiles, her father was the most important to her, and he had been since the day she lost the only other parent she had ever had.
The last time Mora had cried had been when she was nine years old. It was the day her mom died on her. She had stared ahead in the empty chair that her father should've been sitting in and burst into tears, her twin crying beside her. By the time her father came back, her mother was dead and Mora was sat there, already curling up in herself. She had promised herself that day to never be weak again, to be strong like her dad had been as he held his kids, trying to hide the devastation of losing his wife. Maybe it was the tragedy that impacted her so deeply that made her feel so drawn to the mysterious Derek Hale when she first met him that day in the woods over two years ago. He was damaged, too, after all, but he was very talented at wearing his mask. Every once and a while, he would reveal a piece of himself and she would soak every second of it up like a sponge. She wondered if he ever did the same with her or if she was just being stupid, thinking a guy like him could ever like a girl like her.
Lydia and Malia, who became her best friend after Allison died, were the only ones that knew of her feelings for Derek. Allison hadn't known, as her relationship with the werewolf had always been complicated and Mora hadn't wanted to ruin her own friendships with each of them. Lydia was more supportive, even if she had once severely disapproved, claiming Isaac would've been a better fit since he had once had a crush on her. She had tried liking Isaac back, but it became apparent after one kiss that they never supposed to be more than friends. He later began a relationship with Allison and she continued to pretend as if she wasn't falling in love with a man that would never feel the same way. She sometimes wished she could go back to that day in the woods, when she had been trying to help Scott find his inhaler, to change things, but she always loved spending time with Derek, even if they were never going to be a couple. She liked his friendship, even if it couldn't be more.
